Hi, I recently had jaw surgery done and have been given the clear to chew very soft foods. I am at 2 and a half weeks post op, and elastics and splints can be removed to eat meals. However, my entire top teeth feel numb, and my bottom teeth are partially numb. Therefore when I bite, it feels like they are not my teeth and I cannot gauge how much strength to put into my bite. It is difficult to chew and currently I would rather drink then chew, despite being given the clear to chew. If any of you have experienced something similar, I would like to know!
Thanks

I wouldn't try and chew yet. I am four weeks post op and dr said only soft foods that don't need chewing that I can mash with tongue and swallow. My teeth are also still very numb and there is no way I could chew right now even if dr told me I could.

Relax dear ... nerve regeneration takes up to 1 year. Unfortunately I did not recover tooth feeling in just 1 tooth. Tbh I don't know whether it was just a dead tooth before surgery, or if it died during surgery, or maybe I just don't feel it as a complication of the surgery .. but in 7 years it never bothered me.
Last month I removed one of my titanium plates and I did not feel my incisor for three weeks... now it is coming back . This was just a small incision to remove a plate let alone a whole surgery. I suggest you take vitamin B complex which helps nerve regeneration, along with turmeric, ginger and omega 3 fish oil. These help your healing.
Good luck! Feel free to message if you need someone to talk to.
