Yesterday.
I was informed yesterday that I need surgery on my upper and lower jaw. I was in a motorcycle accident in my teens and have had issues/pain/headaches with my jaw ever since. Lay it on me! How bad is recovery? Pain? Etc. I'm trying to decide if I should have it done.

Re: Yesterday.
It's pretty intense. I'm 10 weeks post op. Prepare to put everything on hold for at least 6 weeks. You'll probably need someone to help take care of you for the first week at a minimum.
Your jaw will probably be wired shut for 10-14 days. You'll probably be on a liquid diet for the duration of that time. You will probability have a splint for 4-6 weeks. Your facial structure may change a bit. Especially your nose and you may temporarily lose feeling in your entire lower face.
The good news is that you should notice that whatever your problem is, the surgery does in fact correct it.
And you'll probably have a huge life improvement after you heal up. However, you probably won't enjoy the very beginning of the process because it kinda sucks lol.
My surgery corrected an open bite, underbite and major asymmetry with my midlines.
I'm just now able to chew relatively regular again, my swelling is just now at a place where no one would really know I had surgery by looking at me. I can sleep on my sides again, etc.
But there's still a long way to go and I still have to wear braces for 6-9 months.
There are SEVERAL blogs online that offer a peak at their day to day or week to week journey.
Just do some research on it and decide if the pros outway the cons.
Good luck!
