My appointment is 0845 tomorrow for removal of my braces! Expected treatment time - 18-24 months. Actual treatment time - 12 months!
Has anyone got any tips / advice?
De-brace tomorrow!

Re: De-brace tomorrow!
Try not to hurt yourself by smiling too much! Your teeth will look much larger once the braces are off. And no one will seem to notice that you are now debraced, which is just a sad commentary on humanity as far as I am concerned. Wear your retainers as directed.
Oh and congratulations! The debracing is no big deal -- they have some tools they use to remove the brackets and will clean up the glue with a device that gently removes it. It's a bit of a hassle, but compared to what you went through it is no big deal at all. They could have hung me up by my, ahh, toes, and I wouldn't have complained!

Woohoo! Boy, I love seeing these kinds of posts! Nice reminder that, yes, there actually is an end!
My advice: Have a ceremony to burn your travel toothbrush or leftover elastics or whatever you've been carrying around every single day out of habit. Go buy some taffy or toffee. Gargle with turmeric if you get the crazy urge. Do share your excitement on tomorrow's post, and proud "after" pix if you want, but try not to gloat too much!!! Ok, go ahead and gloat. You've earned it!

Thanks everyone! One hour to go!
How did my treatment time reduce to just 12 months? Two reasons.
Firstly, my overjet is not fully corrected. I was originally going to have Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs) inserted for bringing back my upper teeth. This would have taken at least a year. The ortho seemed a bit reluctant to do this, and I had my own fears, mentioned in this thread:
http://www.archwired.com/phpbb2/viewtop ... 06#p482206
Basically, she said that 'for every action there is a reaction' and than bringing back my upper teeth could change my profile and I could lose lip support. That, coupled with the fact I would be in braces for much longer, made me decide to just live with an overjet. My original reason for getting braces was to straighten my crooked teeth, and they have been straight now for months.
Secondly, I wore my elastic bands RELIGIOUSLY. My ortho has commented on how much progress I have made, and congratulated me on wearing them so diligently. She said 50% of orthodontic treatment is the patient: they must adhere to instructions and care for their braces. As a result, I wore my bands 24 hours a day as instructed, only removing them briefly to eat. Sometimes they'd be out for an hour or so, especially if I was out eating with friends and there were a few courses, but I never forgot to put them back in.
So it's combination probably of an adjusted treatment plan, me wearing my bands, and probably some luck. But I can't tell you how relieved I am they are coming off. My friends are saying 'Oh the time has gone so quick! It only seems like yesterday you had them put on!'
No. Not for me it doesn't. I have felt EVERY SINGLE DAY of wearing these horrid braces, I have never got used to them as some people on here have. My confidence plummeted and while I carried on living my life, I never once forgot that I had a mouth full of metal.
Only 50 mins to go though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
