I'm guessing I may have some pain and should avoid alcohol and some foods, but would I feel well enough to socialize?

I've had the procedure done twice. The first time I also had my wisdom teeth out at the same time, soooo.... let's not talk about that time, that was awful. The second time, I had the procedure done around lunch - took a nap a while after getting home - and felt well enough that evening to have a (single - one) beer at my local brewery (skipping the pain meds while drinking, and really this isn't advisable with being on antibiotics). So wouldn't recommend the beer part as that's bad advise, but I really felt fine that day. The next few days, generally sore, but went on with my normal routines.
I'd asked the oral surgeon in advance on if I could have a beer that night considering I was having anesthesia, and he'd said yes - just to keep it to a small volume. So if you do partake, I'd say ask whoever is going to be doing any anesthesia. As far as feeling well enough to be social, you should be fine.... probably won't want to take any selfies, mine was pretty bloody/gross, but physically/pain-wise I felt fine enough. If you're getting anesthesia though, I'd have no way of knowing how you in particular react to that aspect.

Shelleyt really for me, the worst of it was the headache in the subsequent days. The mouth-pain wasn't really much, but my head was pounding - the canine exposed is in the top-side, and a lot of bone there was drilled away. Again though, still went on with my days just fine, didn't use my pain pills, stuck to advil etc.

Thanks for the input! I am doing general anesthesia so I wonder if that is what may do me in... they didn't really say much about this so I may call and ask their opinion

my chain was attached to my arch wire too. I think it depend on the Ortho how they attach it.

Hello all,

I have been here for a while just never posted anything .
I found out about my impacted canine July 2015, had braces placed November 2015 and my extraction of the baby canine and exposure of the adult canine surgery July 2016. The tooth has come down quite fast atleast faster than I expected it's been 8 months and it's now breaking through the gums making it's grand appearance

@lish my orthodontist was going to laser away some of the gum to expose the tooth more to put a bracket on maybe you should talk with your ortho if the tooth is right there maybe they can do the same
My canine is just behind where it suppose to come into place (palate) the gum is raised does it mean will break through gum soon?
Well, my impacted canine suddenly came out on it's own; I'm 23 years old now. My baby tooth is still in (I'll miss the little guy :D) and the adult tooth is growing behind my lateral incisor. I'm getting my braces on April 10th. When there's enough space, my baby tooth will be removed. Surgery won't be necessary, but they will probably have to use laser to expose more surface of the canine.
This will be my second round of braces. My biggest regret is not finding this forum ages ago, when I quit the whole process because I didn't want to go through with the exposure surgery. I had no idea impacted canines were this common and I felt like a freak.

Honestly, I am getting a little impatient with my right canine. The left one was way up and everyone thought it would be a problem coming down but it is all the way out now and has been bonded for about 2 months and looks and feels great.

The right one though, the one that has been shining through since my exposure (in July 2016) has been on the very last link since February but guess what? It won't break through the gum. Literally nothing is happening, no movement - I can't feel anything!

I am getting so frustrated because I am ready to start focusing on my deep bite now but this tooth won't let me.

Also I just got Bite Turbos so I am very irritable.

Any progress reports that can boost my spirits?

Hi folks :)

Long time lurker, panicking first time poster!

Sounds like my left canine is doing the same as yours UltraViolet :( Exposed and activated last July, everything seemed to be going fine, but now it's got to a certain point near the gum and hasn't moved since January. I'm just baffled, how can it seem to go so well and then just stop at the final hurdle?! They're suggesting extraction now which honestly fills me with horror, I really don't want more surgery and obviously I'd rather keep my tooth! Got an ortho appointment on Thursday and I'm sure they're going to say they want to stop pulling :( He said about closing the gap with other teeth and I guess it could be worse (should be cheaper than an implant if nothing else?) but surely it would look, well...odd?

Oh I promised myself I wouldn't be one of those people who posted a rambling panic attack as their first post, but here we are!

Lish- I have and use acceledent. I only had my canine exposed two weeks ago so too soon to say on how it will impact the canine itself, but I will say acceledent has not sped up my treatment and I am actually well behind on my original treatment time estimate of 24 months (ortho guessed 18 with acceledent)

Hey everyone! So I've had braces for 15 months now, but I'm just getting my impacted canine expose and bond at the end of the month. I don't know why I didn't get it done sooner, I just kind of procrastinated it. I regret that now! I was expecting 6-12 months to bring my canines into position but my orthodontist says it will take most likely at least 15! I was only nine months away from getting them off with the original treatment plan so you can imagine what a disappointment this is. I was wondering does it really take that long? How long has yours taken?
