Oh the pain

#1 Post by Didiz »

So hi guys i got my double jaw surgery last thursday.

They moved my upper jaw forward and my lower jaw inside. I have also been wearing braces for more than 2 years. I have went through all kind of braces pain, wisdom tooth removal ( twice) but compare to this surgery, the others are just walk in the park.

When i got out from comma it was pretty ok i guess, i was still in hospital, they drugged me up. First couple days are just horendous, i was released after staying in hospital for a night.

When i came home i was given pain killer, and antibiotic. I took them like twice a day. But there is just this aching, endless pain around my right chin/ near my ears. No matter what i do, it stays there. I went to my checkup, he said its normal, but how the ... did he know when i was prettt much swollen and couldnt open my mouth wide enough... and said to me take more pain killers (?).

Frustrated, i went to my dentist, he also said wait until things got less swollen then we gonna see. I mean like what? Isnt it kinda too late then? What if sth is wrong with my bones, if i had some infection, what if...

My left side is deflating quite nicely and pretty much ok,... this right one is and keep stay swollen, today even yellow bruise started to appear on the jaw line..

Yesterday i was trying a pretty thick smoothie so i sucked more than normal and i heared some sounds in my mouth. Am i doom? :(
.

Since surgery i never have a day in peace, because i constantly worry there is or will be sth wrong with me. I would not like to need to go through this again.

The post-op paranoia is totally normal  Regarding the sounds when you were sucking, as long as there's no profuse bleeding, you're probably fine, but if you want to make sure you didn't pop a stitch or something, you can take a look at them and make sure they still look fine. Up to you :) Enjoy the super-fun healing experience! Lol

I took pain killers four times a day for the first few days (2 paracetamol and 1 ibuprofen) a whole lot of pills and it was very difficult to swallow as I couldn't open nye mouth that much and had difficulty drinking. But it sounds normal, yeah. So I wouldn't worry. I stopped taking pain killers after 9 days.

I wish you a speedy recovery. Don't worry too much about it it your doctor says all id good :)

I'm 2 months post-op from double jaw as well, same upper forward and lower backwards. My swelling came down extremely unevenly as well, left side stayed puffed up for almost the last 2 months, though it finally seems to be coming down to match the right side (yay).

I'm sorry you're feeling pain! A strategy they suggested for me was to follow the schedule of every 6 hours for the hard-core painkiller, and inbetween on the 3 hour mark between them take ibuprofin, that way I was always taking something every 3 hours. The ibuprofin didn't really help much with the pain, it was more the stronger one that helped more. I stopped needing them within about 1-2 weeks.

I also had a slight sinus infection in my left side which caused weird ear plugging feelings on that side, probably associated with the extra swelling on that side. It was mostly gone by 1 month.

Post-op infection is unfortunately pretty common. Hopefully the antibiotics alone clear things up and they won't have to go in manually to do it. :)

Hi- I was wondering how it all turned out? I had bsso 2 weeks and 1 day ago. I have already had plates taken out( (they bent) and had screws put in. I now have pain on the left side and also an infection (not related) my ortho adjusted my bite this week and now the surgeons guide splint doesn't fit and I have an open bite again. I am on clindymycin. I had antibiotics after surgery and have been following all instructions. My numbness is wearing off )I think) and my chin is burning badly. All of this had me scared and frankly on the verge of a panic attack. I still have my rpe in and that is annoying too. I can live with a bad result but I need to get rid of the infection and whatever is causing pain. I really need someone to talk to. I can't keep putting my fears on my husband as he has to work and he can't if he's worried about me. I mean he can but he needs to be on his toes. My surgeon has turned out to be an amazing person and so helpful. None of this is his fault. I'm not as impressed with my ortho. my friends are supportive but they have families to take care of and they really don't understand. When I saw my ortho last week I asked him if he thought I had infection. He said no and gave my a bottle of peridex any way.
Huh???? I didn't sleep last night for many reasons but number one was my burning chin. Also I've irritated my skin touching my chin too much. I'm really tired, hungry and depressed. Most of these things are temporary I know but my main concern is my pain on left side. Even swollowing hurts it. Any thoughts on any of this? I just too a Xanax, lol, hoping that will help. I see my surgeon again tomorrow. He cleaned my infection today, said it was minor, tomorrow we are addressing pain and relapse.
This is all in a two week two day period.....
