Hi guys,
My central/front incisors are worn and sightly chipped from biting my nails. They've been shaved down to straighten the edges a couple of times but I continued biting, which is why they're like this today. As a result they are a little short compared to my canines. I went for a consultation with an orthodontist and said I'd like to get dental bonding to fix it. He said that instead of bonding, he could pull down my front incisors with braces to lengthen them and then just shave the tips to make them straight. But I am concerned - when you pull teeth down, don't the gums move with them? My gum line is good and I don't want my gums above my front teeth to be longer or more visible, I'm also worried it will leave my gum line crooked since the other teeth won't be pulled down. Has anyone had teeth pulled down and could show me a photo of how it turned out? I believe the technical term is "extrusion".
I've posted a photo at the link below to show you what I mean. My lateral incisors will be treated with bonding as they are undersized.
Note- I have since managed to give up biting my nails, haven't done it in 5 years, so hopefully this is the last time these 2 teeth need to be fixed!

I had my top lateral incisors pulled down. I don't remember how my gum line was before, but I have before and after pics. The before is a little low quality. I also had my canines and my front incisors shaped better.

I also had my lateral incisors pulled down without ever being asked about it and I have demanded to have that reverted. Hate having all teeth the same size, just looks weird and fake... I think it's safe to have your central ones pulled down a bit, but if you don't stop biting your nails that's only a temporary fix, and there's only so much one can extrude teeth... Maybe you should work on the problem first, then deal with its consequences?

Yes, your gum will follow. my lateral incisors on the top teeth were much higher than the middle and canines. My gums are in the same place (tooth stays the same length).
