Clear drinks with Invisalign
Hello
Can someone tell me what kind of drinks you can have when the Invisalign retainer is on?
Does it limit to drinking water only or any 'clear' drinks will be fine such as 7-up, Gin & Tonic , white wine etc?
I need to do social drinks occasionally, and it usually involves drinking for a few hours.
I wonder how do people manage that when thet started the Invisalign journey? Do you just order water in a pub?
Thank you

Re: Clear drinks with Invisalign
When I had my Invisalign, they told me that clear water was the only thing I could drink while the trays were in.
Re: Clear drinks with Invisalign
I think most orthodontists will tell you to only drink water with them in. My orthodontist said to me ideally in a perfect world you would only drink water with them in but most people don't. He was very very strict about telling me not to have any hot drinks and avoid staining drinks like iced coffee and coke/pepsi. He said if I'm at work and want some lemonade or out with friends that clear spirits would be fine to drink them through a straw preferably as long as I brushed my teeth within a few hours and only did it once a week or so. Another lady I know told me that white wine stains them though so probably stay away from that one haha. I personally drink sugar free lemonade with them in every day and it doesn't affect me in the slightest, if I had full sugar soft drinks I would probably brush my teeth within a couple of hours of drinking it just so there isn't sugar sitting in my aligners

Ahh...so it's the sugar that causing the stain. I will try to stick to water whenever possible. Thank you all for the advice

Definitely only water. Something clear will not cause staining but can cause cavities. In order to be healthy and aesthetic, drinking water only is recommended with the aligners on.

Thanks for advice DrJasonTam. Does sugar-free product causing cavity? My understanding is that a lot of sugar-free products contains artificial sweetener, but I am not sure whether they would cause cavity as much as a sugary product.
Re: Clear drinks with Invisalign
Also, what about mouthwash? Can I only use clear mouthwash only and would it be a problem if I leave a little bit of mouthwash residual in the invisalign tray?

I'm pretty sure it's best to use mouthwash when you don't have the trays in.chinglnc wrote:Also, what about mouthwash? Can I only use clear mouthwash only and would it be a problem if I leave a little bit of mouthwash residual in the invisalign tray?

Sugar free drinks also have acid pHs which may not cause cavities directly, but can erode the teeth. Stick to water .chinglnc wrote:Thanks for advice DrJasonTam. Dont drink anything besides water with trays in, or you'll end up like me and have 5 cavities. I brushed my teeth but that 30 minute window that the drink sat on my teeth was all it needed as those 30 minutes accumulated over the course of the treatment.
I ended up getting a cavity between my two front teeth. Not good but lesson learned.

Hello! Im new and I’m considering either Invisalign or incognito. Thanks for the tips so far! I was wondering if it would be okay to have a glass of white wine while relaxing watching tv, but I guess not.
