Bummed about surgery results
I have been avoiding this, but I need to share.
I'm not super happy with my surgery results. My bite is good, but I think my profile and face is still unbalanced. My chin is too long, and I think I should have had a genioplasty with my double jaw surgery. Its depressing, and I didn't want to care as much about the visual aspect of the surgery, but I do, and I'm wondering if I should schedule a genioplasty as soon as I can
Here are some before and after pictures:

I think that I look better smiling, but I hate how long my face looks when my mouth is closed still. I wish they would have shortened my chin. Any advice or similar experiences are welcome. :C

Your chin is pretty pronounced for a woman (post op). I won't sesame you. If you're considering genioplasty, you should go for it.
All of my friends told me my underbite shouldn't bother me. I only gained peace after the decision to go for the surgery.

I have no experience with genioplasty, but fwiw your results look pretty darn good. When I read that you think you're chin is too long, it reminded me of a comment that's made about software and apps when someone claims there's a bug: "It's not a bug, it's a feature!"
IMO, your chin and profile is definitely not a bug, it's part of the group of features that make you you. For sure, you need to be happy with yourself, but if you change everything that you feel isn't "standard," then you risk becoming standard or generic. btw, there appears to be some dude (and a really, really tall one, at that) that has his arm around you in every photo, so he must think you're a hottie exactly the way you are. I say it's a good look.
btw...

Yeah I had three surgeons evaluate me (long story). The second suggested DJS and genioplasty, my actual surgeon doesn't do any cosmetic procedures, so that wasn't an option. I felt pretty comfortable that the DJS would be enough, based on what I've seen from other results, but as my swelling has went down, I almost feel like it looks like I still have an underbite.Expandedmaxilla wrote:Your chin is pretty pronounced for a woman (post op). Did you have a genioplasty? Do you know if insurance covers the hospital portion even if they don't cover the genioplasty itself (they actually aren't that pricey from my research--much less than DJS)
On SinkFullOfDinner point, it is kind of my look, and I do have a BF who thinks it is just fine. The person in those pictures is NOT my BF though, lol.

I have the opposite problem. Im a guy and I had double jaw surgery about 3 weeks ago. I also didnt have a genioplasty and I am thinking I should have as I still look like I have an overbite in profile view. It looks like all my other problems were fixed(open bite, lip incompetence, gummy smile, showing too much teeth when speaking) but my profile still looks a bit unbalanced. I am hoping that my upper lip is still just very swollen and that it will come down and it will look better but from looking at other people's blogs it looks like usually around week 3-4 is when you can get a good idea of your results. If only we could trade chins. I take solace in the fact that compared to DJS, a genioplasty is easy recovery wise if I decide to go down that route(I probably wont to be honest).
BTW I think you look fantastic(very attractive) but I understand wanting things to be perfect after this ordeal.

I think you look very different after your jaw surgery-if I'm understanding the order of the pictures. Your mouth looks great and you will have a beautiful smile. You do have a long chin, but it doesn't look bad. It just seems so drastic to shave it off. I think you should at least wait until you are finished with your braces before you decide. You can always do it later.

Re: Bummed about surgery results
This surgery leads to a slippery slope in terms of aesthetics. Say you got your chin shaved down, then what? Then suddenly maybe you think your nose isn't creating the right balance or your ears don't look right or you hate your hairline or....... It's a dangerous thing chasing perfection. You'll end up half plastic and still not look perfect. You look great, WAY better than pre-op, so take it for what it is: an orthognathic surgery success story! You managed to make yourself look great without major side effects
