Sarpe & the rotterdam palatal expander

#1 Post by Dobbylover »

I had my SARPE surgery in the UK 2 weeks ago now and I was told I couldn't have a normal expander because there was no way it would fit what with my palate being far too narrow. So at first they said they would change it a little while after the surgery but then they figured I would be too sore and too much GA is not good for you so they ordered me a 'special' expander called the rotterdam palatial expander which would widen my top to about 12mm, I'm getting used to it but it is super bulky, has anyone else had any experience with this type of expander? There are spikes on it which is pretty scary.

I have something like that - to jack up my car!!

All expanders SUUUCK! It's just something you have to get through. I feel like ripping mine out about 20 times a day.

If there are spikes or sharp edges, ask for some wax to stick over those areas.

Good luck and just remember to keep going, it will be out eventually.

Thanks, tiring is the only word I can use to describe it at the moment. Oh well only like 6 more months to go.
