Hi Everyone!
I feel rather excited to have registered on this site; I must admit I have been lurking ()on these message boards ever since I made my appointment to be braced. I was goggling ‘braces’ one afternoon and stumbled upon this site. Like a kid at the gates of Disneyland I could barely believe my luck – what a wonderful resource for both information and encouragement.
I regularly check for new posts and feel like I know some of you already, I would say that in particular kk has gotten my attention – If you’re reading this, I really enjoy your posts, and you seem like a really positive/optimistic lady
Well it’s a little under a week until the big B day , after two extractions and a lot of deliberation - like most people I am feeling a mixture of nervous excitement. It feels great to be on my way to a smile that I am happy with. I extend my congratulations to everyone that has stepped up, from what I have read it’s no walk in the park, but then again rarely anything worth doing in life is.
I do have three questions for those in braces that I have been wondering about:
1.Do you have any regrets about your decision to get braces? If you knew now what you knew then would you still go ahead or wasn’t/ isn’t the pain/self-consciousness worth it?
2.How long before you felt comfortable in braces both in a pain and appearance sense – or are you never truly comfortable with braces?
3.Do you think it’s best to tell people before you get braces to prepare them (and yourself for the questions that follow) or did you find that not saying anything and just showing up to work/school made it less of a ‘big deal’?
Thanks for reading my first post or at least skimming over it - I look forward to soon being apart of this braced group.

Hello Serendipidity, love your sig I guess this is your official welcome to the board since u were just lurking around before!
ok, serendipidity, here are ur answers:
1. No, I don't regret getting braces because I would rather wait patiently, even tho i hate these lil buggers, than have bad teeth!
2. I felt comfortable with them about a month after they were put on. U get used to them rather quick actually...
3. I didn't really tell anyone, no one really cared! lol all my friends at school didn't even ask about it, they were like "oh yea, i had braces"...that was about it! lol
bye!
Hey, I FEEL THE SAME WAY! Karen, read my post in the "you are obsessed!" thread...I wrote that before this thread!serendipity wrote: I regularly check for new posts and feel like I know some of you already, I would say that in particular kk has gotten my attention – If you’re reading this, I really enjoy your posts, and you seem like a really positive/optimistic lady

1. I have no regrets at all. Even through the pain and uncomfortableness at times, the changes I see are something I didnt even think I would ever have. I would never change my decision, one of the best so far.
2. It was about three weeks before I really got the proper swing of my new mouth, including extractions. I pretty much forget I have them now and the pain is just something I dont worry about. I figured it would hurt sometimes so I just dont let it bother me......plus I get to eat ice cream after adjustments for a reason! cant get better than that!
3. I am a teacher so my braces are a great talking point. Mine is a bit of a different case cause I have lingual braces, but my kids love talking about the whole process with me so much I spent about 50 mins talking to 15 year olds about the good of having braces when they are younger and to make sure they wear their plates after!! Im a science/maths teacher so I made sure I made reference to the physics behind teeth pulling. I tell who I want to know, and dont really care what others think. If I get the rest of my life with straight teeth then this year and a bit it worth it.
Go for braces for sure!!!!!!!! quicker they are on, quicker they are off! plus you can spend hours here crying about the pain or being overjoyed with tooth movement!
Good Luck!
