Lefort 1 and bsso for short face

#1 Post by Jimbo228 »

So I’m pretty sure I’ve had mainly horizontal growth of jaws since I was little. Even as a baby I had a square short face. My face just seemed smaller than my brothers. As a teen I had braces and had two top teeth extracted cause of crowding I think. My problem is as I grew I developed an anterior crossbite with my bottom teeth ahead of my top. I’m now 31 and I have braces yet again to fix the underbite. Its fixed after a year but I still got one more year in braces.

Looking at my profile I still don’t like it. My nose has always been prominent since braces my first round and I hate the way it flares out when I smile. I also have to struggle to show my top teeth. So I think my maxilla is short and also my lower jaw doesn’t seem long enough. My lower thirds seem average I guess. My chin seems y’all enough I guess though it could be taller. About 45 mm from bottom of bottom lip to bottom of chin. My midface doesn’t seem short as my pupil to bottom of upper lip is about 2.5 inches. Nose is about 55mm from top of bridge to bottom.

So I want to get a lefort 1 and bsso with downward advancement to fix the flat mandibular plane. It’s weird that I don’t have a small enough chin as with short face but it could be because I have a long ramus at back of jaw. I want to achieve a balanced profile and show more teeth and make my face look longer and non square type. I

I don’t know if insurance will cover that. Although I might have sleep apnea cause I always wake up with a dry mouth. Is getting a lefort 1 with downward advancement common? Do a lot of surgeons do it? Is it any harder than a regular advancement?

Also my ortho said that i could get surgery if I wear my retainers. How long will my mouth be shut for? I know these are weird questions but I want to get on the ball and get this fixed finally. How much would something like this run without insurance? I’ve never taken a loan from a bank before. Do people normally do that for surgery? Thanks guys
