I was exactly 4 weeks out on Weds. when I saw my ortho. They had pulled the splint on Friday and I had been wearing bands as required since surgery. The ortho about came uncorked when he saw my teeth, they had snipped my upper arch wire for surgery and my teeth had begun to “collapse” in due to the bands (specifically on my left side) and the lack of support from the wire. He told me it was unusual but he discontinued bands completely and replaced the arch wire. It immediately (spooky how fast they move right now!) straightened my front tooth which had started overlapping my other front tooth and the wire started creating the dreaded Gap my oral surgeon had warned me about. He then went into his office, left a message for the surgeon letting him know what he had found/done and then scheduled to see me the day following my 6 week (in two weeks) post op and insisted I not go more than 4 weeks without seeing him for the near future. This is not an excitable guy but he seemed very concerned at what my teeth were doing. I asked him and he was quite happy with the surgery results and my healing.
I won’t lie - it feels WONDERFUL not having bands but it made me wonder what other people are doing right now? What did your ortho say/do when they saw you? Anyone have a similar experience?
How long before you saw your ortho after surgery?

Hi Chuck
I'm a few months ahead of you, and not sure what procedure you had. My experience was seeing my ortho 2 weeks post-op, they gave me bands on both sides and I had a central one my surgeon advised. It looked a bit like a cat's cradle in my mouth!
Then I had another review 2 weeks after that when the wires were changed and a joint appointment with both, and wore some form of bands for a few months. Returned to regular 4-6 week appointments. I've had a break from elastics twice post-op, and it does feel amazing, although I felt unstable without them in the first 6 weeks. My teeth are also moving very quickly but ortho spots any gaps and they are rectified fast. Debracing end is in sight

Thanks! This is great info. I had a Le forte 1 - 2piece and bsso. I totally agree about it feeling unstable without bands initially!
