Hm, ok, that´s exactly what it says when I´m not logged in, but as soon as I do that, the photos appear. Since you are writing, you are obviously logged inn. Can you see by before pictures on the first side? I can try adding links instead.

Thank you, jdiameron! :D It’s been three weeks today, and I can open to almost normal hight, but do have some pain/ tenderness in the right joint. I have numbness in my upper buccal (outer) gums, and maybe a little bit on the right side of the nose (but have sensation there). I’m not sure if i can feel my upper teeth, but earlier I had a cold sensation in one front tooth when I blew my nose :P

I go in a week from today for my double jaw surgery/genioplasty, correcting an under-bite and hopefully my sleep apnea. Have to have both jaws moved forward with the top jaw moving forward a bit more than the lower. I'm excited and nervous all at the same time.

I'm having surgery on the 20th so sounds like we are almost on the same schedule.
They are working on both of my jaws but I honestly don't know the specific procedures.
I have the time booked off from work, now I just have to wait a week and hope I don't go crazy :D  :D

I had double jaw surgery 17 days ago (June 26th). It's been a tough ride and I feel like recovery is very slow. Can someone who is on a similar schedule as me tell me where they are in regards to eating, swelling, sleeping etc. I had double jaw surgery.

Thanks!!

HI all,

I had my SARPE last week on 7/16. I'm 8 days post-op and feeling a ok. Swelling is still present. oh well, what can be done?
Started turning yesterday, and the pressure in the area around the incisions is brutal.

Hope everyone out there is doing alright.

I had my double jaw surgery done on 7/20. Seems like they slid my lower jaw out quite a bit. Recovery was a little rough but things got a lot better after I puked up a bunch of blood in front of the all the nurses. I still have a lot of numbness (lower lip and chin only tingle if rubbed). Hopefully that comes back eventually cause it feels weird like I’m “wearing” my jaw. Now it’s just Netflix and SPAMS for the foreseeable future.

I was another June 20 surgery. BSSO only, never heard the final results but plan was 8 mm advancement, 2mm left and 2mm up (minor crossbite and open bite).

Just past 5 weeks now. Sensation is altered but returning in lower lip. Chin is starting to feel not quite fully numb... But still 95% numb.

Dealing with very lumpy jaw bones with different contours. Profile looks really good, bite looks pretty good, but I am devastated about how my face looks front view now... Very strong angular jaw on one side, very softly curved and not as wide jaw on the other. Hoping uneven swelling is mostly to blame but surgeon suggested "this was always you, nobody is symmetrical." So not feeling too hopeful

In happier news: I will get to eat soft food in 6 days.

Hay kmany. Don't worry just yet you still have a lot of swelling. I've had this surgery before and the last time I had it was June 2011. By the time you could see my actual face from the swelling going away was Halloween of 2011.

Also, I had my surgery June 26 (6 days before you) and I'm seeing my surgeon July 30th. Hoping he will remove my elastics and let me eat soft foods but maybe it's too early for that since you still can't have soft foods until another 6 days!

Are any of ya'll feeling pain in your chin? My chin is really numb (like 5-15% sensation depending on what I touch) but I get like an intense cold feeling in my chin on both sides that is really distracting. I'm not sure yet but I think Vicodin helps with it. The intense sensation comes and goes but it concerns me a bit that it will be permanent.

If you're getting intense pain in your chin, it's a good sign because it means feeling in your chin is trying to come back and the nerves are trying to reconnect.

Ah ok good to know! Yesterday I was so miserable from it and I scared myself into thinking it could be the new normal. Today I still have the pain but only if I rub my chin and it goes away quickly afterward.

BTW I didn't respond to your question about recovery since I don't think we're on the same schedule but I'll still say what I can about my double jaw surgery experience so far. How are you doing now?
For me eating is still a huge pain. I can only sip from a cup and I'm really struggling to get enough calories. I'm finding milk/chocolate milk is my fallback because it's delicious and easy and has tons of calories and I don't get sick of it.
My swelling is pretty good I think cause the surgery was only 3.5 hours and the surgeon took some steps to keep the swelling low. But the swelling I do have doesn't seem in any hurry to go away. I really can't notice it getting better day to day so I think it's just gonna take awhile.
Sleeping is horrible. I'm having weird/bad dreams and wake up every 2-3 hours from pain and discomfort. I'm becoming a morning person just because I can't really sleep in. I also had a dream I was eating nachos and woke up slobbering and trying to chew on my upper jaw.
Overall so far recovery has had some really low points but in general I'm doing OK. I think all of the time off from work is almost putting me in a good mood.

Saw my surgeon today (5 weeks post op).

Good news is I'm healing well and I can start to move on to solid foods (rice, soft chicken, soft pasta etc). He also removed my elastics so I'm no longer bound shut!

Bad news is one of the plates is exposed so they have to remove the plate once my bone heals or I'll be prone to infection :(
Thought I was finally going to be in the clear but this nightmare never ends!

What is exposed plate like? It's poking through the cheek??

Has anyone had sharp pains on the back of the jawbone? Not in the joint, this is more like right in front of the gonial angle. Intermittent, seems to get triggered by using the jaw (smiling, swallowing, etc). Think I hurt a muscle but it seemed to get worse not better over a few days.
