overbite worse - flared teeth

Hi all,

First off I am so happy I found this site! It really helped me with so many questions However, I still have more. I have been braced for a year and 2 months now. My upper teeth always protruded a bit, but now with braces it seems that they have gone more bucky. My incisors used to go straight down like this -> II and now they are more like this \ and I feel it is harder to close my mouth. Also, it looks really bad in photos so I can tell it is not just in my head. I was wondering if anyone had similar experiences and did the situation improve? I did have extractions of second bicuspids but am scared the molars will move forward and leave no room for front teeth to shift back. This overbite thingy is one of the main reasons I got braces. My goal was to have teeth shift back but now not only are they not getting there, but it seems they are getting worse

I had flared upper central incisors prior to braces due to my underbite. The orthodontist did some IPR and put bends in the wire to flatten them out. They’re not completely straight but it’s as best as it’s gonna be. They’re definitely much better than before.

Thanks for the reply! So you didn´t have extractions? I don´t understand why they are getting flared as there is space due to my extractions. Maybe I am just being impatient and need to wait a bit.

you just have to talk to your ortho about it.

For me, I had a nightguard for my upper teeth (my upper teeth were straight and beautiful). I just wanted to correct my lower teeth. But i got braced for my upper as well.

So now, when i put my nightguard up against my current upper teeth, and realized that my upper central incisors are flared out as well. I had no extractions. the reason is more like the ortho has slanted all my upper teeth toward the center, so my upper central incisors end up flaring out...

I had a pretty bad deep overbite and protrusion, and I extracted a total of 8 teeth (4 wisdoms plus 4 premolars) before I was braced. I had 2 first premolars extracted at the top and 2 2nd premolars extracted at the bottom. My extraction spaces have since been closed (I'm a year and 4 months in). For me, from some angles, it seems like my teeth are still flaring, but I know it's just my eyes playing tricks on me because my profile is actually very straight when I take photos of my teeth from the side view.

Are your extraction spaces closed yet? For my lower teeth, my ortho retracted them back partway and brought my molars forward the rest of way. But for my top teeth, he retracted them back all the way. I think depending on how bad your protrustion is and what your ortho's end vision for your case is, your ortho may choose to retract some and bring forward the molars or just retract all the way. I'd say to voice your concerns to your ortho.

My extraction gaps still haven't closed. I just have powerchains on two teeth that are next to the gaps and I have been wearing those for around 2 months. I am wondering if I should suggest to ortho taking out wisdom teeth from the upper jaw, but my worry is that it might have negative effects on my face. My overbite wasn't very severe. I do have slight lip incompetence but it was never extreme. At least not to me. The problem with my ortho is that she is very stingy with words and I think I annoy her with my questions. She keeps saying that things will work out, my profile would improve and such. I know I should trust her, but I am uncertain. For instance, I wore a TPA in my upper jaw as it was supposed to stop molars from moving and push my front teeth back, but to be honest I did not notice any improvement. I wore it for 8 months. My next adjustment is in 2 days and then I will just ask her again.
