Hi all,
I have been reading in some places that braces can change your face to an extent. I have overbite, slight lip incompetence, not very prominent chin and chubby cheeks (even though my body is skinny). I had extractions and my ortho plans to push my teeth back. I was wondering if this will have a positive effect on my face too. Has anyone here had the situation where their face got less chubby, and the chin got more prominent (better profile view in general) as a result of extractions and braces? I read a lot about some people being unhappy about how their face looked in the end (dished-in face, etc.). What about some positive results? Thanks!

Re: How much did your face change
I had a total of 8 teeth extracted, 4 premolars and 4 wisdoms. I did notice my face becoming slimmer. I had a chubby round face but do not have a recessed chin. I actually have a rather prominent chin. I started out with my teeth protruding out of my mouth making my whole profile look like a duck . After my extractions and braces, I have noticed a slimmer face and a more chiseled looking cheek area. My chin area from the front looks sharper but I didn't notice any changes to my chin from the side though. My profile now is not protrusive anymore and is rather straight.
As for that dished-in look, I personally did not experience that. I asked my ortho about it and he actually said that that dished-in look usually happens when both the top and bottom arches of the anterior teeth are retracted together at the same time. He said that the bottom arch if used as an anchor to control the retraction of the top will prevent that dished-in effect.

Dear Adisa. I was exactly as you before receiving treatment : bimax protrusion, weak chin and lip incompetence. I had chubby cheeks too. I was treated with my 4 first bicuspids out, 32 months in braces and 18 in elastics. My upper and lower teeth had been pushed 8 millimeters back. I am debraced for more than 2 years now and the price completly worth it. My chin has become much more pronounced, my mouth is smaller now and my lips are perfectly competent. I still have chubby cheeks but as I finished with a completly straight profile my face is much more balanced. Here my before/after photos.adisa wrote: ↑Sat Oct 27, 2018 11:05 am Hi all,

Yes, I have seen your post on several place and I am again amazed at the progress you have had! It is also something I am after + I would also want my arch to be wider (to reduce buccal corridors) but I don´t think that will happen. How many teeth did you extract? Also, what do you mean by lips getting smaller? Thank you so much!

Thank you assertives for your input! I am thinking of removing my molars in the upper jaw but I am insure how that would affect my face since my ortho never said my overbite is very severe. Will have to check at my next appointment.assertives wrote: ↑Sat Oct 27, 2018 11:53 pm I had a total of 8 teeth extracted, 4 premolars and 4 wisdoms. I did notice my face becoming slimmer. 4 teeth (2 upper and 2 lower premolars as I had bimax protrusion). My lower lip has become thinner. But both arches are less wide after treatment.adisa wrote: ↑Mon Nov 12, 2018 12:47 amHi Lovespain,Lovespain5 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 07, 2018 5:28 pmDear Adisa.
