too much xrays in a short period of time?

#1 Post by wendydong »

So I am planning on going to maybe 6 or so doctors for more consultation on invisalign.

From my old ortho, he did an xray to start, then around 6 months, he did another xray to make sure the roots are ok, then after I debraced, he did another xray to keep the record? Then another xray for a consultation i had before I debraced.

Feels like I've been having non stop xrays around my head and teeth recently. Should I be worried about the xray exposure if I go on more consultations?

Hey Wendy,
Depending on who you consult with; each one may not perform imaging. The two second opinions that I had only one took a pano. If the consult is complimentary, then highly unlikely you will have imaging done.

Not all first consults entails an xray. I didn't have to get an xray on my first consult with my ortho. Perhaps for those that you had an xray taken, ask for a copy of the xray? You can then bring along that xray to your other consults.

Your are entitled to a copy of your xrays as they are your health records (assuming you are in the US). You can request copies and then if another health professional insists on seeing xrays just give them the copy.

From a medical/biological standpoint yes there is such thing as too many xrays, no you haven’t even began to scratch the surface. Dental X-rays give off so little exposure, do not stress.

thanks for the suggestions you guys. I brought the xray of my old ortho, and it was perfectly fine to use that.
