Clicking when swallowing?

#1 Post by andrea »

When I swallow I can hear a clicking noise, its sound like its behind my ears, but i was wondering if it had anything to do with my bite or the braces/expander
If anyone has any ideas  please let me know
Thanks

Is it happening with food or drink or only when your mouth is empty?

I only get a noise when I swallow empty. As far as I know that just because there's a pressure adjustment in your ears that way. It's not very loud, though, so it may be different than yours.
Metal braces from March 24, 2005 until July 30, 2007. Estimate was 18-24 months, but I had them for 28 months.

I had the same problem caused by TMJ. (That's why I've had braces twice.) You may want to ask your ortho or regular dentist if they thinnk TMJ may be your problem and refer you to a specialist that deals with it. For me, my bite really complicates whether I have the clicking/pain or not.

It happens mostly (or else I notice more) when my mouth is empty, but it also happens when i'm drinking, not so much when i'm eating

Its not so loud that everyone can hear it's just when I think about it, it seems to become more noticable because during the day I forget about it but at night when I have time to think about it really bugs me and I cant stop it
i'll speak to my ortho or dentist about it soon...

Eagle, what does TMJ mean ? aint heard of that one

Thanks for the posts everyone xxx
