DAY 1...and it's done! Trying very hard to have a "PMA

#1 Post by jrh37 »

Well, I got them on today! Damon 3's full top and bottom. No pain at all...a bit sore, but that is it. Now I just have to live with them. I think that is the most difficult and painful thing for me to deal with at this point.

I am feeling a bit down, I have to say. I just cannot imagine living with these 24 hours a day in my mouth! I feel like I have gotten through the day....now enough....off. I know, not happening....I know I will get used to them...and I think my inner lips will too.

It does feel like there are marbles in my mouth when I talk and that my lips are jutting out over them to cover them up. I have to say I am worried about appearance/talking/eating....all of those major issues I had before I got them on. Now, they are on, so I guess I will just figure it out. Luckily those around me are supportive, and I am looking forward to the small perks, such as the possible first few dropped pounds, and inspiration to go to the gym as part of my very own makeover.

I have heard (well, read) you all say that it gets easier, so I am holding you all to that. I am glad the process has really begun, because now the sooner I will get them off. (Is it bad that I am already thinking about getting them off when I just got them on today?!?!)

I keep saying to myself: "PMA--positive mental attitidute" *an eagle scout reference my boyfriend taught me....it does help to remind myself that I have to stay positive.

I will get through this. I know. One day at a time....I just need to get through Day 1.

Congratulations Jenn on getting your braces!
I know there can be a lot of pain and annoyances especially the first few days with braces. It does get better I promise! Don't be afraid to use wax at all! They are hard to get used to at first and get your lips over them easily but you'll get used to it. Honestly most people don't even notice that you got braces unless they have them. No, it is not bad that you think you want them off now. We all go through that stage!
Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!

Thanks so much hannah164 and kikikaren! I am on to day 2 already. A few cuts in the front and back of my mouth...but the warm salt water rinses REALLY do help! I might be doing those all day!

I know it will get better. It just takes some time to get used to....

Thanks again! You all are so wonderful and supportive--I truly appreciate it! This forum has been so helpful with the process thus far. I look forward to having it on some of those days....I think in the first week there might be 7 of those days though! ;-)

Soon you won't even notice they're there - and then you go for an adjustment! lol

But seriously, the first few days are the worst - keep swigging the salt water and the mouthwash that makes your mouth tingles is great too.
