Braces giving me new wrinkles

Well, this is unexpected. My braces have obviously rearranged my lips and mouth and bit and I'm getting new weird wrinkles! When I smile, I now get a horizontal crease across my upper lip, under my nose. It's a bit like the braces push my lip and make my lip bunch up. I also have new smile lines, like parenthesis, around my mouth. My smile has to be so big these days... my lips get stuck on my braces otherwise.. and it's like my mouth is just too small and not stretchy enough to accommodate it all! Anyone have any similar experiences?

Surely it's just the braces doing what you explained, pushing your lips in an unexpected way. I would think said wrinkles will disappear as soon as they're removed.

I think it's just temporary. like if I sleep on my right side my right nasolabial line become a little bit more prominent. Over time it might cause permanent lines, idk tho!

I just got braces, and I have that fold under the nose when I smile, too. I am also trying to figure out smiling right now; I have been smiling with my mouth closed for so long that showing my teeth feels funny, but I cannot fit these brackets under a closed-mouth smile. It's weird.

Smile and show your braces with pride! A smile showing teeth always appears more sincere and real than a closed-mouth smile.

Anybody seen improvement after getting them off?? I’m going through it now

I remember smiling big after getting wire changes. Without it, they’d be poking my cheeks until I got them trimmed.

I'm 42 and got braces 6 months ago. They changed my face for the worse! My cheeks are more holow and it makes me look older. Also I feel that my face is now longer. I'm missing lateral incisors, so before braces I had gaps between my front teeth. People are commenting that I lost my child like face and look more grown up now ( a polite way to say I look older). I still have a long way to go, about 2 years. I hope the end result will be worth it and I don't end up regretting getting braces.

I don't think I had this problem when I had braces. Ask your ortho about it.
