How much faster by using Damon?
Hey,
Just wondering how much faster by using Damon over regular metal braces?
Did your orthodontist tell you the difference in treatment time between Damon and regular metal brace? How much more do u have to pay?
I'm just wanna know, last time I was told by dental sch resident that for my case the treatment time would be 2-3 yrs with regular braces. I would not consider getting braces at all if it's for 3 yrs.
And I wanna know if damon can do a much much faster job than regular braces so that I know what I wanna get and look for orthodontists who do damon.
Thx so much

My ortho told me straight out that there's no significant difference between regular brackets and Damons as far as treatment time goes.
Speed braces (Sure-Smile) would have decreased my treatment by about 6 months, but I couldn't afford to go that route.
Damons were more money for the same amount of time so I went with traditional metal ones. I actually enjoy my braces though -

I don't know alot about Damon brackets but in regards to a possibility of 3 years in braces, yes 3 years is along time but you will get use to the braces. I hesitated on getting braces due to the visual aspect of the braces and finally decided to get them when I was in my early 30's. I always said to myself if I had it done earlier I would have been done by now.

I have Damons and they are supposed to reduse my treatment time by 6 months. So far they've done a beautiful job.
We will see...I know that so much of it is marketing... and your ortho's ability.
Damon's do cost a lot, but don't they all??
As for the 3 years part...the first 3 months is the hardest, after that it's just time...
Those 3 years will pass anyway, wouldn't you like to have straight teeth when it's over?

Yeah.
Last time at the consultation the orthodontist told me the same thing. 3 yrs will pass, no matter i choose to have braces or not. So after 3 yrs either I'll have much better smile and bite or I'll just be the same.

The way i looked at it was, my smile looked better with braces than it did with crooked teeth. So it was a win/win situation for me. I wasn't to excited about getting them, but after a month its like they really weren't even there any more. The changes i saw in as little as 2 to 3 months justified any hesitation i had. I just keep beating myself up for not doing it 5 years ago, course i really didnt have the money then, but its still aggrivating..
I have GAC System 7 top and bottom. They are relatively new on the market and yes more expensive than regular metal braces. They are similar to Damon's. I got my braces on the 15th of August and I am 3 months ahead of schedule already! Adjustments are very quick....20 minutes at the most. I have had no problems with the braces or adjustments at all and have not had to use wax. I believe that most of the reason I have not had the problems are that the teeth move constantly, so it isn't the shock of having things change with adjustments. I was originally told I would be in braces for two years and am hopeful that won't be the case.
I have also read on here that braces don't make a difference in time and I have to disagree with that statement. After researching the GAC System 7's and doing comparisons...I do believe advanced technology has so much to do with outcome and after all I am ahead of schedule.

Thx for the input!
yeah I understand everything is just an estimate until the treatment is done onto my teeth and then it all depends on how my teeth react...
And yes I really really hope my teeth are easy to move by nature...Please...

True...I know a gd orthodontist is very important. That's why I want to look more about the system so that I can choose wisely.
I'm a bit looking forward to the new technologies. Ceramic braces, self-ligating system, lingual, even the latest accelerated braces if I have lots of $$$.
Lots of my friends had gotten braces years ago. They all had regular metal braces. It will be cool if I have something new. They may be jealous that I get it at a later age...but being able to avoid some hassles and shorter treatment time...

I was supposed to get self ligating ones in the beginning but after studying my case they decided that it's not an option. So I went for ceramics. I asked them about treatment time and they said it's not such a big difference if any. Now I admit... Even if ceramics mean a couple of months more time I think it's worth it because they look so much better than metal.

I agree too!
Ceramics look much better, even just for the upper 6 anterior.
hehe, now teeth is the first thing I tend to notice on people. I saw someone with ceramics yesterday. It's not noticeable at all 4 ft away. I'll be ok with that and I should feel gd enuf to last the long treatment.
