hi
i got my first set of powerchains on jan 14th...unlike others, i havent noticed any movement nor have i felt any aching. my question is, do powerchains come in different elasticity or thickness like the wires?
thanks for ur time

I had a set on my top arch for about 3 months until they were removed 6 weeks ago and replaced with o rings.
In those 3 months my top teeth had absolutely no gaps whatsoever, they were beautiful.
I went back yesterday and he replaced the power chain on the top and wow am I hurting today!
So I guess it just really depends, maybe he put a thicker powerchain on this time for me.

I experienced something similar.
They put a partial powerchain to close a gap. During 6 weeks nothing moved. At the next adjustment they replaced the powerchain with a new one of the same kind, and the gap almost closed within 8 hours only. Click the www button for pictures.

I don’t believe that power chains come in different elastic strengths. I think different manufactures use different materials that will cause a particular power chain to loose its elasticity sooner, but I think the idea behind them is to hold a light constant force for as long as possible.
I have been in power chains for about 5 months now and have had no pain with them what so ever. The only time I have pain is when my orthodontist puts new bends in my finishing wire.

I don't know about the actual thickness' of the chains, but I do know they come in longer and shorter versions. I got my first one in Nov. and it wasn't as bad as I was expecting.
Then I got another one ( actually doubled ) in Dec., and when the assistant pulled that thing out, I asked her if she had the right one. I knew the first one was quite a bit longer than the ones she was putting on. And holy smokes, did they hurt like a mother!
