Braces fitted! My journey begins! w/NEW pics

#1 Post by stclair5211 »

Well it has been two hours since I got 8 spacers put in, and I must say my teeth are a tiny bit sore. I know there in and that's about it. Spacers are no big deal...I say that to give you all something to use against me tomorrow when I scream, "take them out! Take them out!"
I even got 2 stylish metal spacers, she couldn't get the rubber one's in around my crown so the doc came over with some metal jobs and woalah! - there in. As you can see from the pic, the only color they had were blue  I've noticed there always blue!*#? Next stop "full banding" next Monday! Why do they use that term??? Sounds scary. Anyway I'll post those pics next week! I am on my way!

Well done on beginning the journey to straight teeth, stclair5211  I'm a few months in now and am so relieved it's not nearly as bad as I expected! When you get the metal bands put on the molars you might feel like they are too high and you are biting down on metal, which you are. But the weird feeling goes and after a while you won't notice them. They do feel very odd to begin with though. < :yikes: p> I've currently got turquoise ligs and must take a new pic for this site! And I am now wearing elastics since my last visit 3 weeks ago. Weird sensation and I thought I'd got away without elastics, but clearly not! <p>Best of luck and don't be worried! :-#)

Thanks Sarah68! I have been wandering around here since posting and decided to check back. Trying to get an idea of what I should buy - if anything B4 the braces go on. Floss threaders, etc. When I got my spacers another patient had just got braces and she walked out with a TON of stuff, so I am thinking I should be covered. I am more anxious than anything! I am ready to get them on!!!

For anyone keeping track of my "spacers pain", its been 4 hours or so and my teeth feel much tighter! I wouldn't call it pain yet, but you can feel them in there. I think I better go eat something, I imagine by morning I won't be able to! My ortho. and all his assistants as I was leaving told me to eat a good lunch and stay ahead of those spacers! I am starting to think they were right. :?

Wait for it... It's coming. And if you suffer like I did, the pain from the metal ones will be the worst.

My rubber spacers were green.

Looks like we are spacer buddies! Good luck and I hope they don't hurt you too much. Mine are in, but I'm trading them for braces tomorrow morning. Here we go!! :)

Just a quick update on the ol'spacers...No big deal! Ha ha! :D I guess I got lucky. I am not going to lie and say my teeth are not sore or tender, but there not painful. This is coming from a guy who put a nail through his palm and almost passed out - yeah that sucked. :( I had roast beef last night and I think I swallowed most of it whole because chweing was ackward :? . Felt like I was using someone elses teeth! Anywho, thanks for the kind words everybody and Ill be sure to check back in if my spacers start to hurt more. (fingers crossed!!!)

Today was the big day! While my photos are uploading to imageshack, I'll describe how it went. This may take awhile too, I have dial up. :x Today ironically was the best spacers day I had all week, I could finally eat hard foods and not feel pressure. Spacers never hurt, but they were a real pain. Anyway I got to the office 25 mins. before my appointment and maybe like a few of you was thinking, "walk out. Why are you doing this? Just leave man!" But I didn't thank God! I get called back and the fitting of the ol'bands starts. Which except for the worst tasting glue ever, was pretty easy. We (the assistant and I) chatted about the super bowl and watched ESPN on the TV at my chair. 8) Why do they always ask a question requiring an answer when its impposible to answer?! Fingers in mouth, etc.? She was great though, made me feel comfortable and relaxed. Cake walk... Next come the brackets, simple too. The worse part was when she removed the cheek spreaders and my lips and mouth were dry!!! I would have loaded up on some chap stick had I known. That was it, out came the spreader thang and I picked a color - silver for the ligs, and the archwires went in. The one thing I am still not used to is how I look! Big change. The shocker is I never thought my teeth were that off until I saw the brackets - that archwire goes up and down! (I just checked on my pics uploading and the first one is ready...here goes!)

Day 1: (Try not to look up my nose! Should have cropped that!)

Same mouth open! (Why I don't know...)

I'll post more when I get on a high speed line, this dial up stinks! Take care everybody and smile! :) Just looked back over my pics, I love the way she crossed the ligs like an X. Nice touch.

Hi Lin! So far so good, but its still early. Just had my first braced meal! :D How weird! :? Progresso soup is my new favorite food. A lot sure gets stuck in the brackets, WOW! Pretty easy to deal with though, a sip of water - SWISH!SWISH!, and its all gone!

Thanks Kiwi! The lip balm has really come in handy! Being the 2nd day I must say I haven't been too miserable, I mean my teeth don't really hurt. At least the teeth I use to chew, so eating is ok. Biting down like into a sandwich is off limits for now  , I just rip it with my hands. The only other thing that is driving me crazy is rinsing/brushing after eating. I hate all that food that gets trapped! Day two and my biscuspids (think that's right...the ones next to the two front) and my two front teeth are sore. I guess that means the braces are working! :D I was told this wire is a pretty wimpy one so I am not expecting too much movement over the next 6 weeks, but I'll update if something new shows up.

I got a ticker too and it worked! Woo hoo! 8)
