mrsdental, Have someone take some pictures from a "normal" wedding photo distance and see how your teeth look. If you're unsure, post here and we'll tell you how it looks! You can block out the top part of your face if you're worried about anonymity. Just show us your teeth.
You usually don't smile with an open mouth, right, so will your teeth show in your wedding pictures enough to justify the $300?
I ALWAYS smile with a BIG HUGE toothy smile so mine would show, but would my braces show from the normal photographer distance?

If you decide to do option 1, remove everything but brackets, how would you feel with just brackets for a couple of days? I don't think I could go a couple of days with just the brackets, I have metal top & bottom, but when I'm in for an adjust and they've pulled off ligs & wires, it really feels odd and ominous with naked brackets.

Ha! yes I know how that feels... everytime I go to the dentist I get it all taken off.. (except for the brackets) and yea it feels odd... But it might be worth it???

I come from a whole family of professional photographers and I used to assist my dad at weddings. The formal shots of the wedding party and the fam and all that are usually not THAT close up. As for the close up formal shots of you and your mister those may show if you are giving a big ole' toothy grin but if that is you go for it! If you are having a professional photographer do it they will give you proofs to choose from and you can pick the ones you want touched up and believe me for what you will pay a wedding photographer the little x-tra for the touch-ups will not be that much of a difference. If you have candid shots from friend's cameras those may show your grill but they also show all kind of fun things the formal photos don't catch...like the bride in the bathroom stall with her huge a$$ dress or a brides maid making out in the parking lot ...oh wait sorry I just have some wild relatives who had crazy weddings ! Really though all the others have great tips on the braces part so I think you will do fine. I am sure you will get it all figured out and under control before the big day so you will not even have to think about it and be able have a great day!

I'm getting married in May and I went through exactly the same ordeal and I am willing to pay extra to remove them for the day. There's so much planning involved so I totally understand your concern.
I have ceramic uppers and metal lowers so I've opted to just take the uppers off (who sees the bottom teeth, anyway?!) so I'm not sure if that affects the cost in any way. Once they're off I'll have my teeth cleaned at the dentist.
At first, my regular ortho was so whiny about my suggestion of taking my braces off for the wedding. As luck would have it, upon my last adjustment, he was on leave so I saw another ortho who set up appointments to remove and add the braces around my wedding date (my teeth will be naked for a week. YAY!). Photoshopping was any option but I thought about the continuity with our guests personal photos as well.

I agree that braces or not, between your beauty and your dress, I can almost guarantee no one will be looking at your teeth - but you'll know, and that's what's most important.
While we all have input, ask yourself this one questions:
"If I could do exactly what I, not the ortho, not the future hubby, not anyone else but I, really, really wanted, what would that be?" Orthos get bent out of shape about every little deviation from textbook orthodontics. However, they aren't living our lives. I hope this will be your one and only wedding - at this point the differential for even the most expensive pre-wedding orthodontics probably doesn't touch the cost of the whole wedding (not that I know your wedding cost, but on average), so I say DO WHATEVER IS GOING TO MAKE YOU THE HAPPIEST ON WHAT SHOULD BE THE HAPPIEST DAY OF YOUR LIFE. Go with your gut, go with what you think looks best, the reality is it probably won't make that big a difference in your treatment time anyhow.
It's your mouth, so you make the call.

paw655, what you said hit a nerve with me. You are right, the ortho doesnt live ours lives. Over the past eight months of my braces I have had over ten brackets break off. One was my fault, the others....well I think my ortho should have known but thats a whole other story.
I am annoyed and frustrated because I have to keep getting time off of work to get them fixed (which takes ten mins max). In my job its near impossible to get time off and more to the point, I dont want to take time off! I have sooo much to do and it has to be me doing all the tasks.
Anyway, its annoying because to the ortho its just a fix whenever he can fit me around his schedule and he isnt living my life!
