My Blog

#16 Post by StephanieT »

Here's my blog; I have a bunch of links that I've gathered over the last few months. I'm another person who researches everything before I make a big move.
I love this forum, by the way, for the fact that it's organized differently from the Yahoo message boards, which I also like.

What the heck do people do without the internet?? Can you imagine how lonely that must be? Nobody wants to talk about orthognathic surgery...not that most people would have much to say about it, anyway. How nice it is to relate to people who also hear, "Why are you having surgery? You don't need surgery!"

Only problem is, I'm half crazy enough to start hinting to people who NEED the surgery, but who don't seem to know about it. I work with a woman who has a severe underbite, and I can tell it bothers her. I know her surgery would be covered, because our employer covers it. What I think I'll do is, I'll introduce myself to her and tell her about MY surgery. Or, I'll make an e-mail announcement to my group that I'm having surgery, and that I'll be looking different or swollen or something at our next monthly meeting, and I'll add that if anyone wants to know about jaw surgery, they should e-mail me. Yes. That's what I'll do. What do you think? It just seems like people who finally hear about this surgery are SO relieved to find out that their jaw problems can be corrected. And I know, as a 37-year-old who JUST now had the surgery recommended by an orthodontist, not everybody knows about it, or maybe they figure it's just such a severe option.... (Can you believe that not ONE dentist ever pointed out that my overbite could be corrected? But they DID offer to bleach my teeth without me asking, because the fee packs a nice profit...)

 Anyway.

I think its a spendid idea to send that group E-mail StephanieT

I did not know anything about underbites or overbites until i visited the orthodontist. My dentist just said i had a strange bite. I am also grateful that the internet exist for such purposes because it has helped me tremedously with connecting poeple who are in the same situations or have the knowledge to offer advice and support

I sometimes aswell have the urge to hint to poeple who need the surgery who do not seem comfortable in their own skin. It can get sticky though, "is it my right to tell someone they need surgery?"

i've written about this before. I would be inclined to tell someone about it if they did not seem happy with their bite and appearance. But if they were 100% satisfied with themself, there wouldnt be a need. Personally it i would not have minded if someone told me i needed it. I was really relieved when my ortho said it was something that could be fixed. Knowledge is power, and StephanieT, thats what your offering. People cannot make changes unless they have the information in order to make decisions.

2 months and 4 days until my underbite is no longer.

With respect, it is not your right. If a lay person approached me and offered this advice, I would not be impressed.

That is true, but they might still decline to pursue certain options based on various other, and quite reasonable, factors.

I would tread very carefully around this issue.

You're right lionfish. There could be many factors that could be preventing someone from getting the surgery and i would simply be rubbing salt into the wound by bringing it up. I guess the best thing i could do is just provide information about the experience im having and why im doing it. Just throw the seed of thought out there instead of making it a confrontational thing.

well heres another good link http://peacefrog1987.tripod.com/
This girl really makes quite an astonishing transformation its great to see.

Thanks for the links in your blog StephanieT, I really enjoyed the videos, would have never found it on my own.
