I stopped counting, but if I had to guess, I've lost about 10. Three came off the day after I had braces put on. Luckily I haven't had any come off in the last 6 months (i'm 9 months in) except for the one i cause to come off by jarring the tooth. There have been a few times when the ortho used so much force to put in a wire that i thought for sure he was going to knock another bracket off. i think nowadays they use less stronger bond as to not damage the teeth. when i had braces as a kid, i did not lose one bracket and they practically had to ply the things off at the end of treatment!!!

One come off right after they were originally fitted.
During 1st Adjustment had two come off
During 2nd Adjustment another two came off
During 3rd adjustment the same, another two came off.
During 4th Adjustment, again the same, another two came off.
No more until my most recent adjustment, where another two came off.
Lucky me?

I have had two come off in 18 months.
Upper canine - came off while my ortho was tying it onto the wire, so I don't accept any blame for that one!
Lower lateral - came off when I was picking at what I thought was a piece of tartar next to the bracket. It turned out to be a lump of cement and the bracket came off too

This week, I had my eighth bracket pop off. (see first post in thread for the history)
Worse yet, I'm out of town for the week.
And to add to the bad news, the tooth that is "off the wire" is now ending up behind some other teeth due to their movement. I already called my dentist and sent her some digital pics of the situation. I'll be seeing her as soon as I get back into town so that this can get sorted out.
I was only a few weeks away from being done, but I suspect that I'll end up keeping them on a bit longer to get things back into place after this mishap. Doesn't really bug me...I like my braces.
I'm going to miss them, but I am looking forward to flossing like a normal person.
