i have been very anxious about behing braced over the 2last years; and this is a topic i was quite aware of. I usually dont wear a watch because i cant forget it, same for glasses (which turn out to be a self-conciousness problem as it is so "visible") so i was quite affraid about starting a journey on braces because if i could not forget them, it would be longs months passing after longs months: a hard journey
i am not in the journey yet (tmj treatement first) but finnally i managed to be less anxious by simply accepting the possibility to feel braces for two years, to not be able to forget them and live with them. It doesnt makes me feel happy and, still, i dont know how i will really react after 2days in braces or two years but i think i can manage it without
some people mentionned that braces became a part of them, on another example when my ex-gf told me she occasionnaly dressed in unusual manners, i asked her how she could feel okay anyway, not weird or just strange, she answered that she just became accustomed to get herself changed
i really admired theses reactions because this is something i cannot do and because i find it very interresting that the more people accept something, the better they feel with it.
At last, and speaking about myself, i may feel bulky teeth for two years but i know that the more ill accept it or try to accept it, the easier it will be to feel okay with theses bulky teeth; knowing this made me feel less anxious and more confortable toward braces.
in the end, may be ill even forget about them...
theses are just some thoughts, hope it could help in a manner
2nd day with braces

I just passed my 25 month mark in braces. It's gone fast! There were times, especially at the beginning, where it was hard. Getting the big wires, power chains, and elastics were also trials but they pass. You will get into a routine and not even think about them after a few months.
Drink LOTS of water to keep your mouth moist. Dryness will kill you.
I remember the day I got them on the ortho assistant asked, "Is anything poking?" and I said, "Yeah, it's ALL poking!" You're not alone!

Day 1 in Braces
I got my braces on this morning! I only have my top arch braced and so far my mouth is alittle sore. Certain teeth ache more than others because I think they are more out of place. I had to take an advil before dinner just so I could make sure my meal was somewhat pleasant and wouldn't take an hour to chew. I have begun to eat soft foods and already I am sick of soup!!
With regards to how they feel...well, my top lip is wondering what to do and where to go. I have finally become more comfortable with the bulkiness of the braces (I have 3M Clarity ceramics self-ligating) since these ones are a bit thicker in profile vs. the metal ones I have on my back molars (3M Smartclip self-ligating). I know if has only been 10 hours, but I am still self conscious when speaking to other people - trying to hide my braces by covering my lip over them. Obviously this looks ridiculous and I can't even speak properly...but I suppose I will learn soon enough.
I can't wait for my teeth to start moving. Most of the time I don't mind the soreness so much, just to know that my teeth are getting out of their comfort zone. The only real pain I have experienced are the brackets on my canines - they have been rubbing like mad (because they stick out a bit) on the insides of my mouth and had to give it the wax job with 2 hours of being braced. Oh and also, the worst part of my ortho appointment this morning was that lip spreader contraption - ouch!! It was rubbing against my gums so badly. At one point when the ortho leaned his fingers onto one side of my mouth a tear trickled down the corner of my eye.
Anyways, glad that is over. We will see how the next few days are. I will update soon!

When I first got my braces I had the exact same feeling, and I didn't really believe the people saying that I would actually forget I have them on or even those saying it would get better. But it did. To be sure, I haven't really completely forgotten about them, especially when you eat you are always aware you have braces bc food will continue to get trapped in them, but for the rest of the time they won't bother you at all!
