Hi TanyaS
I'm getting on OK with my linguals. The 3 things I was concerned about were pain, lisp and eating.
I have to say I haven't had any pain yet, I had them fitted (uppers only) on Tuesday and was expecting to find uncomfortable on Wednesday/Thursday but so far they've been fine.
Speech is a problem, well for me it is anyway. Several people have told me that you can hardly notice it and if I hadn't told them about the brace they wouldn't have noticed but to me I do sometimes have a bad lissssssp. I've ended up telling everyone I talk to that I've just had them fitted so I'm struggling a bit. I've found a quick sip of water really does help.
Eating isn't so great. I'm really hungry!! So far I've had soup, scrambled egg and a bean and rice type stew thing (it was prepacked, not sure what it was - it looked like mush so bought it). I've just tried some porridge for breakfast but it takes sooooo long to eat anything it goes cold before I get very far. I'm hoping this is going to get better pretty soon.

I have ibraces on both upper and lower archs for 9 months now. I have never put a single piece of wax on the brackets and the wires to cover up sharp edges. Normally it takes two weeks for my tongue to get used to any wire adjustment. I think putting wax on is simply lengthening the time for the tongue to get used to the braces.
If after two weeks your tongue still get irritated from the tip of your wires you should go see your ortho and get the ends of the wires polished. It helped me a lot that after the ortho cuts the end of the wire he smooths it out before I leave the ortho clinic.

Hey guys,
teach- Good idea about having a huge steak! I did the same, we went out for a nice buffet dinner before I got braced, yummy steaks, woodfired pizzas etc... make the most of being able to eat normally while you can
Jo- I know how you feel! Dinner breaks at work seem to go so quickly- spend almost the full 30 minutes trying to get through my meals (which have mainly been mush so far by the way and then off to brush the teeth for the last few minutes) I've found a big speech change, I think its starting to get better a little today tho...

Re: About wax- new to braces
do your lower teeth hit upper linguals. Does that cauase any kind of discomfort
Hi Moh,
the lower teeth do hit the upper brackets, I've only just started to try chewing food today, so it's a bit awkward but feels like it will get better soon...
When the teeth are sensitive the first couple of days after having braces put on, it was pretty uncomfortable if I knocked the lower teeth on the brackets, but now not bad at all really
