Thanks....
I'm not too sure about the exact name of the removable device he used but it fit in my upper arch - sort of like a plastic clear device - and the aim with this device was to widen the upper arch and create more room. This 'widening' effect moved the top teeth outward . And that was followed by a round of braces. Hope that answers your question.
I hear you about keep going for consults to find a doc who understands what's going on here.
Incidentally I just found someone else on the net who had the same problem:
http://www.yestheyrefake.net/journals/j ... cement.htm
and if you scroll all the way to the bottom and look at point number 1 - I think this is precisely what has happened to me. So a small hurrah that I'm not the only one (as evil as that sounds) but I'm quite glad that orthodontics was able to help this lad. So I'm now determinded to find a doctor who understands and is able to create a treatment plan that addresses my main issues.
Thanks for your advice - I do appreciate it.
Expander negative side effect: lip now covers top teeth

You didnt mention the braces part.
That makes all the difference in the world.
In that point they said she had to force her the lips around the teeth. You seem to have the oppostite problem the lips covering the teeth to easily.
If your upper teeth are outside your lower teeth and the lower teeth cant be uprighted to make them fit then you can constrict the upper arch with cross arch elastics in the upper arch (and various other ways.)
Other than that I dont know what to tell you.
