Re: Becoming Frustrated
Mine was a consultation about my different options and then a couple weeks later (This morning) I was in the chair getting all geared up..It's gonna be a long trip but hopefully it's all worth it =)

Yeah, patience is a virtue.
Cripes, in the beginning, I was checking the mirror every 20 minutes looking for movement, LOL!

Re: Becoming Frustrated
Hey, I understand the frustration completely! I have had my braces (top ceramic and bottom metal) for almost 9 months now. I had one tooth that was crooked and it is only NOW in its proper place. I did see small shifts here and there in the first few weeks but it's a very gradual process. Hang in there, it will happen! You will also feel that your teeth have shifted after every tightening because your bite will feel different.
Re: feeling self-conscious, I was super self-conscious initially and would smile very little. I still smile with my mouth closed, but I've gotten used to them now that I sometimes forget and I smile with my teeth. So it does get better! Only thing that still really sucks is the sores from the braces rubbing against the inner part of the lips/mouth. Grr..
Re: braces on the same day - it was between October to March from the time I had my consultation and the date I got my braces. I think it's a big decision to get braces and sometimes people need to go for a consult and then think about it first after given an estimate and options (which is what I did). Every situation is different. For example, some people may be told that they need jaw surgery, or in my case, I had to remove two premolars and two wisdom teeth first. Your case may have been more simple and straightforward for your ortho to put on your braces on the same day.

I have metal braces and I still do feel a little self-conscious of them sometimes. But its really only when it comes to seeing people that I used to know, or when people think I'm younger than I am, or when it comes to pictures. For pictures, I always use 'filters' or edit my photos so my metal braces look less dark. I'm pretty positive though that all my braces photos I have I'll delete in the coming years. Maybe not though, who knows.
I used to smile no problem without braces but I always felt self conscious about it secretly and hated meeting new people because i didn't know what they'd think. With braces I don't feel as self conscious in that respect and I smile with my braces showing because my closed mouth smile looks dumb. Haha.
As for consultations, I had three before I decided and I'm glad I did. Each one had a completely different plan. It took from May to the end of August for me to decide who I wanted to go with.

Re: Becoming Frustrated
I guess I was just do desperate to get them off, I didn't consider going to different people. But maybe they would have told me the same thing my ortho did.
I was actually recommended to him by my dentist, and read really good reviews online. When I go in for a tightening, I'll ask exactly what my treatment is.
He might have explained it to me but I didn't understand at the time. I had no idea what he was talking about. After finally doing some research, I now have a better understanding of the 'vocabulary.' Thanks for sharing!
Do you have progress pictures, etc?

Re: Becoming Frustrated
I haven't seen much improvement on my teeth (well, the most crooked ones) so I know how you feel. Plus there's still one rotated tooth with no bracket, so I have a coil spring in place. I've been taking a pic of my teeth after placement and each adjustment and I just can't see the movement but my family can. Maybe it's because I see myself everyday in the mirror.
I also have metal braces and it's the opposite for me. I seem to be smiling MORE with them. I'd rather have my braces more noticeable than my crappy teeth, plus I'm having fun with them picking the colors. I already look juvenile and the braces make me look even more younger, so no complaints.Featheryy1221 wrote:I have metal braces and I still do feel a little self-conscious of them sometimes.
