Orthodontic Costs
Moderator: bbsadmin
I'm in West Virginia and my total is $6200 all inclusive. That did include $300 for upper ceramics. (Whole lot of good that did ME.) My ortho called my case from day one complex due to things done my first round of braces. When I decided that I'd like to fill in where I had extractions with implants, there was no change to the fee nor did she try to persuade me against it. This has included pictures, molds and numerous bite plates. I've had several emergency appointments due to brackets popping without and harsh words. Dr. P is reputed to be the best in the are for adults especially with TMJ. I can look at her and other's orthodontic final results and tell a difference.
Yes she is higher, but I believe my care has been worth it.
She did give us a discount for my son. I expect she'll give us one for our daughter although her case is much more complex than mine.

I wore braces (this time) for 1294 days or 3 years, 6 months and 17 days.
But who's counting?

cost and evil ortho
mine is $2800 (US dollars) out of pocket. Insurance covered $1500 (US dollars)
My orthodontist is evil!!! He hates me because I am from Chicago.
I like imitating accents a lot, so then I chose to imitate a Canadian accent.
He also hates me because of my mixed racial background.
I cry whenever I leave that office.
His treatment may cost less, but when you are miserable, you'd rather pay more and get a nicer orthodontist.

Folks:
Somewhere we're loosing focus. Price might be important, but the final result is what matters. There's an old adage about the sweetness of a low price ends long before the bitterness of poor quality. If you base your decision just on price, are you missing what's important?

I live in chicago. Total treatment cost was 4500.00 Insurance paid a nice chunk, so I was left with 2400.00 + 300.00 for cermaic uppers.
Total out of pocket was 2700. I paid 600 down plus 250 for records, and 103 a month for the remaining balance. Treatment time is an estimated 16-18 months.
btw, I have a great ortho!
WOW Mariah! Where is your ortho located?

I'm in Kentucky.
My cost will be $5300 for Damon braces, 6 upper Damon 3's (clear) and the rest metal 3MXs. 18-20 months treatment and the price includes retainers. Free consult (I already had a recent pan x-ray on file, though).
I have dental insurance but no ortho for adults (curse you, Delta Dental!) so it will be out of pocket. I'm using my health savings account and my employer is kicking in $600 in matching (nice of them), plus the ortho office will give me a discount (couple %) for auto-payment.
The price is a little higher that I expected, but now I see it's about average. Plus I felt really comfortable with the ortho and his assistant, and their office has all the up-to-date technology (like OrthoCAD iQ) which impressed me.

My total cost is about $4,500 for ceramic uppers/metal lowers. I payed an extra $500 for my ceramics (he told me not to bother with cermaics on the bottom ... you can't see my lowers when I smile). That includes my retainer and all my visits.
My consultation was free.
I did see another ortho for a consult, and he quoted me about $6,000 for Invisilign. I would have been happy to pay that, if I had felt he was the right doctor for me, but ... he wasn't. I didn't like his treatment plan OR his "chairside" manner.
I'm sure I could have found a lower price, but I doubt I'd be as happy somewhere else as I am with my current Ortho.

Treatment is running me $4,400 and I'm in Iowa. I have dental insurance but orthodontia coverage is only for dependents 19 and under and seeing as how my dogs need denta-bones worse than dental appliances, I was screwed. Fortunately I have a Health Savings Plan that my employer deposits money in to make up for the not-so-great insurance we have, so thankfully I won't have to pay any money out of pocket. I live in Iowa and I was quoted as high as $7,000 so it all depends on who you talk to.
I based my treatment not only on cost, but on what you think your money goes to. The guy that quoted me $7,000 had a futuristic office with mood lighting, fancy artwork, touch screens and a video arcade. No thank you!
