Ok so just a quick update on where I'm at. My jaw surgery (mandibular osteotomy) is today! I go in to hospital in a couple of hours. I'm a bit nervous but mostly excited that I get two weeks off work to sit around watching trash TV (I'm particularly addicted to 16 and pregnant and 4 weddings) and not feel guilty for it.
I am in hospital for just the one night, which I am very glad about as it's my 26th birthday tomorrow. No cake for me though as I'm on a liquid only diet for 3 weeks. I'm seeing my ortho 1 week post surgery so will update then. Wish me luck!

So I'm now more than 3 weeks post surgery. It all went really well and I'm almost eating normally again. I have just not quite conquered steak or bread. I'm very happy with the results, mostly because I look no different!
I saw my ortho 1 week post op and to say he's happy with the results is an understatement! He couldn't stop praising my surgeon! He then dropped some words that I wad both happy and frustrated to hear: "you look finished". But that was it! I go back the 1st week of November and am sure he was just getting over excited and I'll find out then that he still has months of torture planned for me!
I'm supposed to be wearing elastics to remind me not to open my mouth too wide, but have stopped as of this week. I hope my jaw surgeon isn't too upset when I see him. But after 3 weeks in those things I'm well and truly aware that opening my mouth too wide is not a good idea- my gosh does yawning hurt!
I will try and update with some pics very soon! I will go and attempt to take some now!

Wow kristy, just found your 'story', and it's so similar to mine! And the photos near identical! How did you feel going back to work just 2 weeks post op? I do a lot of talking in my job too so am a bit concerned about that.

Hey guys! I'm so sorry I've been so slack with updating! A few weeks after my surgery I had a run in with a window and made a mess of my wrist which led to an ambulance to the Royal Melbourne and plastic surgery a week later to mend tendons and nerves. I was then in plaster and a brace until just a couple of weeks ago.
Clare: going back to work after 2 weeks was fine in that I was perfectly capable of doing my job, but embarrassing because I hated speaking with those elastics stopping me!
I did see my ortho in November and he said its looking great but added power chains top and bottom to close some tiny spaces.
I then couldn't see him again until last week (his office closes for over a month for Christmas).
At last week's appointment he barely said anything. Just gave me more elastics to pull my pointy canines down a bit further and then said the magical words 'book her in for a deband'.
So... My braces are coming off in one week today! Yay! He squeezed me in quickly because I may have mentioned I'm in the bridal party of my cousin's wedding on the 3rd of March. This is actually not true, my boyfriend is a groomsman. But I'm intending to turn up to the wedding with no braces and seeing how long it takes him to notice! I'm too excited! When I told my friend the other day she was sure I'd gotten engaged because of how excitedly I said "Guess what?!" haha I wish. But this is almost just as good!
