Re: Kayla's Braces/Story
Repost: Here are some progress pictures. The before ones were taken by the ortho office so that's why they are better quality. I tried to get the best shots I could. I've had a lot of movement on the bottom teeth. The top teeth had braces on them when I was younger (mentioned in 1st post).

Repost: Two more. My orthodontist evened out my two front teeth a bit when I got my braces on Oh and she removed glue from the front incisor that my old ortho didn't remove...and then put new glue on it :p

Re: Kayla's Braces/Story
I'm still waiting to hear back from the surgeon's office. I'm getting a little impatient. The molds were taken 9 days ago. I'm sure the surgeon received them on the same day they were taken because the orthodontist office is right across the street.
I'm tempted to call before the day is over but I don't want to bug them if he hasn't had them time to look at the molds yet. Should I just wait for them to call?
I want a date set so it can feel more real. It's still hard for me to grasp that it's actually all happening.

Finally decided to call the surgeon....and the office is closed on Fridays. I guess I'll call them on Monday.

Re: Kayla's Braces/Story
The surgeon wants to see me for a followup appointment (I haven't seen him since the initial appointment in July before braces). The receptionist said we'd go from there and get things started. My appointment is on the 23rd. Hopefully I'll only have to wait ONE more week until I get a surgery date. I'm really, really hope for a June or July date! The sooner the better!! I want this over with already.
I do need to call my orthodontist though. I think my power chain has slipped halfway off on a couple of brackets. I tried moving it back on the bracket but I'm too afraid that I'll break it. I'm going to wait until next week to call though to see if they can get me in on the 23rd as well. I don't really want to wait but my orthodontist and surgeon are about 45 miles from where I live and it's just a hassle. I also don't want to take too much time off from work since I need to save my days for recovery.

"They also changed my wires again (3 weeks early!)"
That's great news! Always a good sign when ahead of progress. Keep your story updated!

Re: Kayla's Braces/Story
Still no official surgery date yet....BUT I do have an approximate time frame. The surgeon expects me to have the surgery in the second half of June! So I'm looking at about 2 months from now. The surgeon needs to discuss a few things with my orthodontist...so hopefully by next Thursday I'll have a surgery date scheduled! The surgeon's assistant said I'll have several appointments in the near future getting ready for the surgery. More x-rays, measurements, molds, etc. Initially the surgeon told me he'd be moving the upper jaw forward 3-4 mm and the bottom one back 3-4 mm. Now he's thinking moving the upper 5-6 mm forward and the bottom one back 1-2 mm. He'll also be expanding the upper by 2-4 mm. He'll do that by basically cutting the upper in two pieces so it's not a SARPE.
I also expressed my concerns about needing two premolar implants to replace the ones that were removed when I was a teen. He seems to think I can get away without needing them replaced. I really hope that's the case!

Re: Kayla's Braces/Story
Ugh! Still no surgery date. It's starting to feel like I'm getting the runaround from my ortho and surgeon! Their communication is AWFUL.
4/1 - Molds were done at ortho to determine if I was ready for surgery. They were sent to the surgeon. Surgeon was supposed to call me.
4/16 - I called the surgeon as I had not heard back yet. Set up an appointment for 4/23.
4/23 - Appt. was practically pointless. Surgeon said he would talk with ortho and get back to me.
4/30 - Called surgeon's office. Learned surgeon spoke with ortho briefly. I was told to call the ortho and set up an appointment and we would go from there.
My ortho appointment is May 6th . Is it normal for it to take this darn long for them to schedule a date or is it just my surgeon and ortho?
I'm trying to stay patient but I need a date ASAP for work---as does my husband.
Have I mentioned that I have to drive 45 miles just to see both the ortho and surgeon? It's not like I live in the same town. I either have to use sick time from work or not take a lunch break for the entire week to make up the time. This is driving me nuts!

Re: Kayla's Braces/Story
Finally a surgery date! My surgery is scheduled for June 15th at 9:30 a.m.!
My pre-op appointment at the hospital is June 9th.
I have one more appointment with my ortho for surgical hooks, 2 sets of molds (1 for her records, 1 for the splint), and new pictures of my bite and face. I'll have one more appointment with the surgeon beforehand as well. I don't have dates for these yet but they will call me once the surgeon and ortho speak again.
It all feels so real now lol.
