Hmm love that description I go in on Friday to talk to the implant specialist and see where things will be moving from that view point of things. So far I know I need at least one implant but the Orthodontist is thinking two implants and braces again... Will post in my story when the time comes and goes.

Rain rain and more rain bleh! Extraction site is healing slowly but surely. The 'holding place' tooth on the retainer is bugging me. Nothing specific, just general bugdom. Anxious for my ortho retainer checkup mid-month!
2/2/09: metal braces T/B
8/20/10: braced removed (18mons, 18days), hawley retainers T/B
9/16/10: LR central incisor extracted (failed root canal)
2/23/11: implant/bone graft
9/15/11: implant crown placed, lower lingual bonding corrected
9/21/11: upper bonding on lateral gaps from upper arch forward advancement
10/17/11: new hawley retainers w/plastic tubing over the 'social six' wire, both T/B
One week until my retainer check up and I can't wait! I'm hoping to get my 'wear time' reduced. Will also get the panoramic x-ray to check overall retention since the braces came off in august. Indian summer has arrived for the next several days...strange to have warm weather AND fall foliage.

Retainer checkup tomorrow..strange, as I feel as excited about it as I used to feel about an adjustment. Have no idea what to expect, other than the usual 'opencloseopencloseopenclose'.
One good piece of news: I totally forgot to put in my bite guard last night and when I woke, I did not even notice I'd forgotten...i.e. I did NOT grind/clench! I'm aware that one night does not a solved issue make..but I'll gratefully take it as a sign that all those months in train tracks aligned my bite so my subconscious mind didn't feel the need to 'find' my correct bite all night. Hoody frikken hoo!

Not sure I'd call today's retainer check up much of a check..but there was an excellent outcome anyway. Got in and found out I did not need the panoramic x-ray today but will have it in Feb, as they are done annually. Doc looked at my extraction site, and how the dentist put a 'holding place' fake sorta tooth on the retainer, and asked what I planned to do next. I explained I wasn't thrilled with the idea of an implant at this point, but would consider a consultation, and asked for a recommendation. She told me about her niece who at 17, had a bone graft and implant fail in the same spot I need, and that she had success with a 'marilyn/maryland bridge'. Something to think about, for sure. But the excellent news is that the doc is making me a clear retainer with a nice fake tooth TODAY, that I can wear during the day AND during meals <who knew?!?>, and then wear the regular hawley at night. I asked for the price, and she whispered 'only charge you $50, but don't smile for the gals up front to show your missing tooth when you leave, or the new tooth when you leave again'..LOL! So I'll be heading back later this afternoon for the new fakus toothimus to be fitted..wahoo! She also said I could go to 'just nights' on both hawleys, but I'll re-verify that later, as my brain was too busy with the mold stuff being shoved in my mouth.

toothus fakimus is in the building!!! It looks terrific and only took an hour before I got called back to the office to pick it up. The essix feels strange, as it is much tighter than the hawley. And yes, hawleys are 'at night and when at home' instead of 24/7 now...holy cow that is super fantastic!

I popped out my clear retainer and toothus fakimus remained in place, lodged between my teeth . Bonus is that my ortho is on vacation for a week so I'm basically SOL on that front. But..it fits right back into it's little home in the retainer, and I was able to carefully put it back in my mouth...and it worked fine! So, I can wait until the ortho returns or get all McGuyveresque and drop some glue in there myself. Leaning heavily towards waiting, so no 'don't do it' posts, please!

Anyways opera^gal, I found a second opinion on my implant issues all I can say is wow I'm impressed with this new guy and his knowledge of things. Looks like my treatment plan to treat for the implant issue + my slight TMJ issue + my relapse is upper and lower hawley retainers with a screw in them to help with shifting and then implant after that problem is solved... Now here is the sticker price...
$1,608 for retainers + implant.

A screw in the retainer? I'm curious as to how that works. $1608 for retainers AND implant? That's a great deal.
Mike
I wore braces (this time) for 1294 days or 3 years, 6 months and 17 days.
But who's counting?

Thanks for praying for me and thinking happy thoughts.
Yes it is, in fact a reason behind the great discount was the fact I'm a firefighter and this office supports it's local heros (Fire, Police, EMS, Military) and gives there patients anywhere from 15-50% off... I got lucky I got 50% off for both my firefighter + military

Looks like I might have a 'bone splinter' coming through the gumline below the extraction site...WTF Called the dentist about this sharp bump that is making the gum white below the extraction site and he said it could be a splinter working itself out, or the bone healing in a wacky way. Either way, he wants to see it tomorrow and will decide what to do with it. Oh goody, more chair-time..can't wait

Saw the dentist for a fly-by look-see and will go back on Saturday for 'splinter removal'. If it doesn't come out easy, he'll have to use 'the force' aka a laser, to go in and remove it Here we go, Chewbacca!
