Adults With metal braces - are you happy with your choice?

Re: Adults With metal braces - are you happy with your choice?
I got my braces on almost two weeks ago, and I have ceramics on top and metal on bottom. I'm super happy with my choice, though I think I still would have been happy with all metal. So far I've found that I'm not as self-conscious about having braces on as I thought I would be, so that's a pleasant surprise.

Congrats on your braces! I thought I would update this now that I have my braces off. I had all metal Damons except the top front 8 were clear Damons. During treatment both metal and clear were great, I was very happy with my setup. I only had one bracket pop off and that was a metal one that came off right in the beginning. None of the brackets broke or stained.
Debanding: the dreaded clear bracket deband... Yes, the clear was harder to remove than the metal but it was fine. Actually, the worst bracket, which was holding on for dear life and I thought would take my tooth with it, was a metal bracket on the bottom! The clear sounded terrible as the plastic shattered and flew everywhere, but nothing could beat that one metal bracket. Ugh.
And the worst part---that no one can avoid---is grinding off the glue! Ahhh!! I had one arch done at a time with a week in between and am so glad I did it that way. It sucked!!! No way would I have wanted to do it all at once. Kudos to everyone who gets it done the same day.

I agree, Newbite . I had ( clear) brackets on only 8 teeth and grinding off the glue from just 8 teeth was bad enough.
Congrats on your new smile!

Re: Adults With metal braces - are you happy with your choice?
I'm getting my braces fix tomorrow. Although I've told my orthodontist on previous session that I wanted Damon metal for both upper and lower, I keep flipping back and forth between clear upper with metal lower and my original decision this week. Not so good when you are left with too much time to think. Reading this thread and reading your experiences has help me make my final decision. Full metal it will be!
Re: Adults With metal braces - are you happy with your choice?
Yep.
Ceramic (to me) made people look at your teeth even more. It takes a couple takes to realize what's going on in there. With metal you are just laying it all out there, so to speak.
Also. I like coffee. And red wine. A lot.

I've got full metal as well! For me it was mainly about the cost difference, as the metal was cheaper. But I'm still completely satisfied with them!

Thanks for posting this. So helpful with my choices coming up soon!
Re: Adults With metal braces - are you happy with your choice?
I went with the full metal because it was so much more expensive to go with the ceramic. I don't regret my choice at all. I'm actually glad I chose the metal after I read that people had a hard time getting used to the ceramic because the brackets are little bulkier.

Re: Adults With metal braces - are you happy with your choice?
I got ceramic upper, metal lower.
I now wish I'd got all metal because at least then I could make a 'statement' with my braces. The white ones look a bit weird, in my opinion, as they don't show up clearly but they're not invisible - they just look like something odd on your teeth. But that may be just me and how they are placed on my front teeth (very low down).
The metal ones are smaller, too.
The plus side is that in photographs they blur and don't stand out like metal would.
