The 8 millimeter retraction of both the arches causes not only more chin projection, but my chin appears to be longer than before.
At the end of my treatment, after the closing of the gaps, I kept on wearing my rubber bands to put my lower jaw forward and to retract more the upper one.

Normally as your teeth are well-aligned, the extraction of 4 bicuspids creates enough space to improve a lot your whole facial features.
My teeth were very slightly crooked before the treatment too, so all the room created was for the retraction.

It's amazing what effects shifting a few teeth can produce!

Btw what is the function of the elastics? Could they be a main part of my treatment?

Yes! I wore elastics for 18 months.
The rubber bands are, in our case, used to retract the teeth in both the arches.
I wear alternatively Class II rubber bands - to move back my upper arch - and Class III rubber bands - to move back the lower arch.
Class II elastics are also used to move forward the lower jaw, in addition to retract the upper one. That's what I had on the end of my treatment, to reinforce the chin projection and to allow the lower teeth not to be covered by the upper ones at all.
But there is a lot of elastic configurations, equally as it exists different orthodontic cases!

I went to the ortho one week ago to talk about the first 6 months after treatment.
So nothing has changed since my braces had been off. My teeth and my profile are straight and my lips stay perfectly competent.
But there is other improvements I didn't think about during my metal mouth era :
- firstly I'm no longer a mouth breather thanks to the correction of the bimaxillar protrusion.
- my pronunciation is better even if I still have a little lisp.
- I have much more self-confidence than before and I smile more often.
FInally, I don't regret at all to receive this orthodontic treatment.

Hello,

I'm a new member and unfortunately I can't see any of the pictures posted but I just had 4 bicuspids removed last Friday and on Monday my wires put in so I'd really love to see the pictures everyone shared. Is there anyway this can be done ?

One year after debanding : all is ok.
My lips and my mouth are still perfectly competent.
My face hadn't become thinner at all.
I am definitely very happy with the results and I don't regret at all to have chosen the extraction route.
Good luck with your treatment all of you!

Thank you for sharing your pictures & story here. I would be so pleased if my results were as good as yours. Your mouth in profile looks so good! Straight but not flat - or like Goldilocks said in the story "just right.

Did you have Tads? Because it's nearly impossible to have the front come back 8 mm, it's just physics, the rears will come forward 2-3 mm
