I can't believe the pain and throbbing has subsided this quickly. Could it be that with each progressive adjustment, the tissues/bones are just adapting faster? Needless to say, I'm thrilled not to feel my pulse in my teeth at the moment. I do hope this doesn't mean that any progress to be made this month, has already been completed...that would be very frustrating indeed!

One week since the purple ligs went on, and so far...no fading or changing colour <even after Cheetos-orange-'cheese'-product colouring>!
I'm so glad I took the plunge with colour and will probably go all the way, both top and bottom, next time.
I feel no more pressure from the tweeked advancing loops, so I figure they've done all they can do <3 months in a row> and maybe JUST maybe, I'll move into a different wire in July!

Two weeks ago, had the purple ligs put on...and still no staining/fading!!! I might indeed be convinced that colours *can* be cool.
I'm concerned that Slowpoke has somewhat reverted back to his stubborn position, although I'm not sure how it would be possible. Perhaps it is just how my jaw is behaving lately. I'll be anxious to see what the doc says in July, that is for sure!!
Can some contact that guy Noah, to see if I can borrow his boat? Rain rain and more rain here, not that I mind the cooler temps in June...but come on! Gills and webbed feet aren't too far out of the evolutionary future here!

Three complete weeks and still no fading/staining of the purple ligs!! Ok, I'm sold on doing *at least* purple all the way around next Monday when I have my next adjustment. Whereas I enjoy being able to eat anything at all during the last weeks of an adjustment period, I am eager to have the next adjustment, so more movement/progress can happen. I don't think I'm alone in this feeling at all!!
Good news weather-wise: have actually seen the sun...yes, that big round bright disc in the sky...for two whole days in a row! Naturally, rain is expected every single day this week at some point....Arrggh!

Adjustment day today..whoopdedoodah!!
The purple ligs last month lasted the entire month without fading or staining, so I took the plunge and got jelly teal ligs on BOTH top and bottom..hope they do as well.
Top wire got swapped out for the same gauge but with new loops, further advancing in front which makes a lovely shelf for my top lip to rest on, and expansion as well. Needless to say, even after taking Aleve before I left, I'm feeling it. Bottom wire was upped to an 18g contraction, and in case you were wondering, yes I'm feeling that as well. I think a nice nap after lunch might be called for, while things progress on the pain level scale. Pain means movement which means progress...what a sad mantra *that* is...

Ow ow ow ow ow and, just to be clear....OW!
After 3 months of gentle negotiations with Slowpoke and his crew, it took less than 12 hrs to force them ALL into a cohesive arch with Fleetfoot and his gang. OMG...12hrs and poof...ta-dah! Granted, this was accomplished with much throbbing that no amount of any painkiller could lessen. The top wire was not even in the bracket slots when I left the office yesterday, while the ligs were straining to keep the wire directed while hanging onto the brackets themselves. Now, the wire is nearly seated in the groove, baby! Amazing! Naturally, I can not eat ANY solids at this point, and even a gentle kiss from my fella, is agony! It will get better, I rationally am aware of this fact..but right now, it sucketh bigtime!

Opera^gal - I have laughed as much about braces ever - fantastic blog.

I am so glad it's not just me that ended up turning my braces into a teeth related soap opera - I found it was the best way to deal with the nasty painful days and sounds like you are finding the same thing.

Just wanted to say good luck - I've been in braces for 16 months and have been through the same cucumber and nectarine/peach attacks as you along with regular pokey wire attacks. I also had a very stubborn collection of teeth which I called the "chain gang" who have now decided to obey the rules thankfully.

Keep writing, it's brilliant and there is nothing like a laugh and a smile (even when you end up getting pokey wire in the cheek because of it, its so worth it ;) )

Thanks for the reply Sammi..glad to know there is life out there in blogger-land. As I told my orthodontist on Monday when she questioned my going with colour on both top AND bottom: "Hey, if someone is going to get any fun out of this ordeal, it ought to be ME!"

Ok..so...I'm down to only 'ow ow ow' today...5 days after the last adjustment. Any pressure at all on my top 'social six' brings about migrainesque pain. This makes nearly everything impossible, including the obvious consumption of anything slightly tasty! The back teeth have subsided a bit, only barking when I really bite down with force, so I know things *are* getting better...and the backs have begun to 'creak' with being loose once again, and that can only mean movement ahead on the turnpike of torture...and egads, the price of those tolls!!!

One week since the adjustment and most of the teeth have stopped being painful. The top 'social six' are still being anti-social with their deadened-numb but still super sensitive game. Lowers are shifting with the contraction wire so that my bite is *off*. All in good time, I know. Still completely happy with the jelly teal ligs..I just hope I'll be able to score more of the same, or at least, in the jelly style, in upcoming adjustments.
One new twist: I seem to be getting my lips caught on the canine-hooks all the time now, where I never did before. Another sign of progress?? Not sure I like having to reposititon my lips after laughing, speaking, and everything else <insert eye-winking and elbow-nudging here>.

Amazingly, only one tooth....YES...it is Slowpoke, still feels numb/dead AND is a bit wiggly still...but at least he appears to be in line with Fleetfoot at this moment...hope it lasts! Teal jelly ligs are holding up really well, and an odd bonus...they make my teeth appear whiter...OR they are actually becoming brighter over time...at this point, I wouldn't be surprised to see gnomes in the middle of the night, with dental instruments, tweeking things while they believe I'm asleep!!

One week and a couple days until my next adjustment...teal jelly ligs still showing no sign of any fading/discolouration..might be time to check out other jelly colours..I do like the semi-transparency of them!! The numb/dead feeling on Slowpoke has fading during the past week, but the top front four, are still feeling loose, not that I am surprised, as they did get shoved a good distance forward this past adjustment. Does make me wonder if I'll have a new wire, or keep this one until the looseness fades, if indeed they are in their final destination spot. Summer fruits continue to be a pain in the a$$, getting wound around wires and hiding in gaps...no amount of swishing, toothpicking, proxybrushing or toothbrushing seems to get the lil devils, as at least one strand will appear one brushing later..a vile surprise!

Adjustment coming up on Wed morning, and what do I have to show off??...scalded tissue on the lower gumline at the molar band AND the nice flesh bit of the inner cheek that has built up to lessen the top molar band hook from digging in...SPLIT in half by a shard of toast crust....so NOW the hook keeps getting caught in the split and making it MORE sore/swollen...Grrrrrrrrr! Mouth injuries do heal up pretty fast, but I doubt it will be by Wed...ah the fun of explaining the jacked-up-mess in my mouth..yipppeee!

Boring adjustment today: same wires both top and bottom, with the advancing loops tweeked yet again on top..and yet another mini power chainlette...went with jelly teal ligs again, as they didn't have any other jellies in stock today..which is ok as I liked them last month.
I know the doc knows what she is doing, but the power chain dance is getting old already, and I've only had chainlettes....one month on..one month off...on...off...if it keeps up this way through the whole treatment, I may need a long vacation in a soft, padded room somewhere. And let's not even delve into all the major gaps that have yet to be addressed, due to the advancing wire on top. When those get into the 'chain gang', it will be time for a morphine drip and a huge chocolate cake!

The part you wrote about having the hook getting caught in the cut on the inside of your mouth sounds exactly like what I was going through last week. I went through more wax during that time than I have the whole time I have had braces. It sucked, thankfully it did heal quickly and it's back to normal! Hopefully the same goes for you!
