In less than 90 minutes I will be having my braces fitted. I am a 30 year old female, and having ceramics on my top, and mini metal on my bottom. I am so nervous and dreading seeing myself with them on for the first time.
I've hated my crooked upper teeth for years now, and am excited that I am finally embarking on the path to perfect teeth, but scared about all the other emotions I will experience when the braces are fitted, and other people's comments.
This website has been a source of great inspiration into actually plucking up the courage to go for it, and reading that other people out there are doing the same thing, and feeling a similar way.
I've taken some photo's of myself before my braces are fitted, so that once they are on and I wonder why I've done it, I can look at what I hate about my teeth and what I am changing.
Wish me luck, better get myself ready to go now!

They're on
Thanks guys.
I wasn't quite prepared for how my mouth would actually feel with the braces in. I feel like i must have lips like Angelina Jolie. My mouth feels so big.
I also didn't realise how much I displayed my bottom teeth when I talked, as they now seem so visible with the mini metal braces on. I have told all my friends that I look like Jaws from the James Bond movies!!
18 hours in and there's no real pain yet. Eating is very difficult and I am sure I will lose weight! Maybe I could write a best selling diet book where all you have to do is get braces! Another positive side effect is that so far I can't bite my nails as well!
I've got a couple of sores coming and have used the dental wax, but I'm finding it hard to get the dental wax to fix. Any advice:?:
Even though I do think they look horrible, in reality it's no different to how I felt my teeth looked anyway without the braces. At least this way, its about 18 months with metal on, and then a life time of teeth I can be proud about. I don't know if it's different in America and Canada ( us Brits are always being laughed at for our poor teeth) but braces are normally just associated with kids. Many of my friends say they think I'm mad doing this, although they're not happy with their teeth they don't see it the same as me, and would rather put up with less than perfect teeth than a short period in braces and a costly fee.
If anyone is reading this and unsure whether to have braces fitted or not then do it. I know the next year will be hard at times, but it will definately be worth it.
Now I'm going to try and refit some dental wax - wish me luck!!!
