I've been looking at this forum for a few months now and finally decided to join :)

What to say...well...i'm 20, an art student, and in 2004 finally decided to do something about some overcrowding i have in this mouth of mine, except as most people in the UK know...the NHS is a bit of a shambles and waiting lists are a bit of a nightmare!!

So, finally in May 2006 I received a letter telling me I was near the top of the list...I was so happy!

I'm facing a sort of dilemma now though as I wasn't comfortable at all with the orthodontist I saw at the hospital...and on the NHS it appears to be the case that you have very little say in your treatment plan..

I was wondering if any other UK members have had the same dilemma and have decided to go private??

The private route appears to be very costly, but i'm at the stage where i'm starting to think that i'd be a lot happier being treated by people that I am comfortable with!

Do private orthodontics offer more options that the NHS?

Appologies to people reading this outside the UK..it seems everywhere else has a much more straightforward system!!

Any info appreciated :)

Im in the UK and Im a bit like what are you doing?!?! every time i go to see my ortho, but at the end of the day, they do their job. Perosnally I let them just get on with it, and even if my rents offered to go privatly I wouldnt.

You might aswell get something from the tax you pay!! Im happy to know that my ortho has lots and lots of thankyou letters and cards in his waiting room, that means that people are happy with what hes done and thats good enough for me.

If you feel uncomfortable with the ortho, just think how much more uncomfortable you would be handing a cheque for up to 4000 pounds would be!!!

I think you should go with the NHS, the results are always going to end up the same no matter where you go, they all got taught the same profession didnt they.

I hope you figure out what works best for you, I just think it would be a shame to have to pay for the same service you could get free.

Even if you dont like the ortho, its only for like 30 mins every few months!
Sorry for typos, I BLAME MSN!
