New here - ?'s about cost and types of braces
Hi!
I am 34 years old and have been wanting to get braces for some time now. In my opinion my teeth don't stick out much but it does bother me.
I am going in 9/28 for my final consult and it get my braces put on. I am a little nervous about cost.
What did everyone pay for their braces? Sorry to get personal - it does not have to be exact cost just a round about. Also what types did you get? Metal, ceramic or invisalign? I smoke occasionally and drink coffee everyday so I am unsure which type to get.
I am sure I will learn all of this at the consult but I am getting nervous of what to expect. Also, how long did it take to put the braces on?
Thanks
Tracy

braces
Welcome tracy729!
Mine cost $5000.00 which included moulds, xrays, braces , retainers, etc. I got SpiritMB's composite on top with Damon2's metal on bottom. Went in at 8.00am- walked out 10.15am. Took 2 hours and 15 minutes for moulds, xrays, pictures , braces. Dont' worry about being nervous, I had butterflys as big as elephants before hand, and everyone here helped me thru it, you can do it too!

I'm paying $4500, $1000 of which is coverd by my insurance. I have traditional metal, self-ligating brackets; this price includes the braces, appliances, pics, x-rays, molds, one set of retainers, and follow up appts after I get the retainers. I had to pay 10% as a down payment, and I make a monthly payment of about $130 or something. My ortho would have done ceramics for the same price. Prices vary for ortho to ortho though. The first consult I had, the quote was $8550! So get a few quotes and pick a doc you like and works within your budget!

Hi Tracy
Coming from a UK perspective - I have ceramic uppers and lowers at a total cost of £3,500. I paid a deposit and then I am paying off the rest of the amount over 18 months. It is a lot of money but by paying it off bit by bit it doesn't seem to be as much.
I chose ceramics as I didn't want them to be noticable, I have clear ligs which do stain with certain foods, but I have avoided these and worked round it the best i can, and so far I have managed to keep my ligs clearish!
It took about an hour to put the braces on and then a 20 mins talk on how to look after them.

$5600.00. Ceramic uppers and metal lowers. This includes everything from consultation through to retainers and follow ups. It did not include my extractions. Those were mostly covered by insurance.

Was braced for all 9 months of my pregnancy and managed to keep fresh elastics on during all 26 hours of labor!!
The total cost for me is $5200, zero down, interest free, $139 per month for 37 months. I also get a free bleaching for signing up for auto pay plus I signed an agreement the day of my consultation and my diagnostic records were free. This covers traditional metal, RPE and retainers. My total treatment time is 24 - 30 months with 2 years of follow-up. Ceramics are an additonal $500. As stated by others, the cost varies greatly from ortho to ortho.
It took about 1 1/2 hrs to get my braces and RPE put on.
Good luck!
Cindy
