over filing

#1 Post by buttercup »

I had to get some teeth filed down but had gaps so i waited and waited thinking maybe theyd close up. well its been months now and the gaps are still there and i only have 3more trays to go. so i definitely know that he overfiled the bottom half of my teeth (not the top) esp since there arent any gaps on the trays. so i'm assuming i'll get refinements, but does that mean that he'll have to file the tops to match the overfiled bottom halves? or are my teeth just all going to be crooked? i'm really worried.
anyone knows?

Are you talking about the top arch or the bottom arch?

If you are talking abou tthe bottom arch, then everything that you are saying makes sense. Your teeth are triangular shaped and will look like they have been shaved more on the bottom (near the gums) than on the top. I have the same issue. My bottom teeth have been shaved. The tops of the bottom teeth are touching but the bottom near the gums still have smalls gaps. This is called the "black triangle". My ortho will not be shaving the teeth any further so what I have now is what I have.

I think that my clincheck showed there might be some gaps but it did not bother me too much as I will most likely get some nice veneers stuck on my teeth at the end of treatment to get the best result I can, even if it kills my bank account

My bottom teeth are way too small to keep filing them. My ortho and I both agreed that any more filing would not help the situation. He is going to file one more time on top though after he had told me I was all done. The black triangles on top will be much more noticeable that on the bottom so I am not worried.

Getting food stuck? Hmmmm.... When you have braces everything get stuck all the time, so I have no idea if food will be getting stuck in those things later.

i went to my dentist to get refinements and also asked him about the big gaps in my teeth. he said it's because my gums are not healthy so they are not as high up as they're supposed to be, but i'm pretty sure that the gaps in my teeth are because of overfiling that he's not admitting to doing. he said that the refinements won't help, but that i should get my gums pushed up (which would be a LOT), or he could fill it in with some 'white stuff' but tahat he doesn't recommend it . i'm thinking about going with the 'white stuff' because i knw it's not because of my gums especially since the size of my teeth don't match up with the aligners either.. i'm kind of mad at myself for letting him file my teeth cuz unlike hair, teeth don't grow back. the trays worked fine, it's just that he ruined it by overfiling. anyway, what's so bad about filling it in with white stuff? and do you guys think that's the best way to go now?
