Cleaning Invisalign
What is the general opninion on the use of a product like Efferdent for cleaning trays? I know it's not recommended by Invisalign, but just wondered if people do it anyway? I'm nearing the end of tray #2, and have been using toothbrush & toothpaste to do the job so far, but you have to be quite thorough especially as you get closer to the end of the 2-weeks.
u do not need to waste any money on that stuff it makes no difference all u have to do is in the morning when they are grotty brush them with toothbrush while the water is running ( no toothpaste required ) and then after u have eaten and are about to put them back in rinse them under a tap this method works well for me and I only drink water when trays in
I've heard that repeated brushing will start to scratch and cloud the aligner trays. Since I've never had Invisalign myself, I can't say for sure, but this is what other people have told me. That's why a lot of people use either denture cleaning tablets or Retainer Brite. It's not necessary to buy the super expensive cleaner that Invisalign sells. Other products work just as well and do not harm the aligner trays.
I'm the owner/admin of this site. Had ceramic uppers, metal lowers ~3 years in my early 40's. Now in Hawley retainers at night!
Thanks for the comments. I might just go and get some Efferdent or retainer brite to see if it makes maintenance any easier. I'll probably only use it once a day and keep brushing the trays the rest of the time. I must say, on the subject of brushing... I now find I really like the taste of a fresh mouth after meals and coffee .. I wonder if this is something one is likely to keep up in life after braces?/
