What's that Gritty Sandy stuff Dentist use 2 clean teeth ?

#1 Post by Bluerain »

Hi all,

When I get my teeth clean it taste salty and I end up with that Gritty sandy stuff all over my face when getting teeth clean.

You know they mix it with the water to clean teeth and gets all over you..LOL.

I want to buy some and put it in my water pic.

Can anyone tell me what it is called ?

I only get 2 cleanings a year with my insurance and really would like to get it done every 3 months instead.

I drink allot of coffee and need to do it myself every once in awhile.

I searched the net and nothing but ads for teeth whitening come up.

Thanks so very much : )

Hi Kiwi

I tried peroxide and gargle with it everyday and it reall doesn't help with the stains all that much.

LOL I also use baking soda and have just about every thing there is to buy .

The stains are really bothering me .I gave up smoking and really not strong enough to give up the coffee and tea. I drink way more since I stopped smoking.

It's my dentist not the ortho who cleans my teeth. I need to find out what it is as I need to get more frequent blastings to get at the stains .

My dentist said I do a very good job cleaning my teeth as I never have too much plaque and gums are very healthy but she always mentions the stains from tea and coffee.

Thanks anyway : )

I'm not sure about putting gritty/sandy mixes in your waterpik, I know the instructions for mine say to never do that. What I often do, is put in the tank, a few drops of hydrogen peroxide ... and use that to make my teeth and waterpik feel a little cleaner.

You can also brush your teeth with a mix of salt and baking powder. This subject has been discussed a few times on her, but I can't remember how much baking powder is used. I know there's at least one member of this board, who brushes her teeth with a sprinkle of baking powder straight on the toothpaste ... but I have no idea how this works. I love colgate toothpaste with peroxide and baking soda ... it's the only toothpaste I've found that makes my teeth feel really clean!

If you are so desperate to have more cleanings with your dentist ... then I recommend you pay for them. Many people aren't as fortunate as you to have any appointments covered with insurance.

Enjoy!

I wonder if this is what they use.

Yes my teeth are more porous and I think that comes with age.. 49 last week. But I feel like 25 with all the working out and eating healthy.

Blue-I am trying to quit smoking here... and also am concerned about the coffee stains (I take mine black). I've been using a straw so less coffee is actually coming in contact with my teeth. If you must OD on caffeine, try using straws?

Uggh I hated that stuff it got all over my face AND it tasted bad, and there was some still left over and it was like having a mouthful of sand.
