Who's got TONGUE HABITS?!

#1 Post by JadeBlue »

Okay, I admit it: I might not be in this orthodontic situation if I didn't push my teeth out of alignment with my tongue.

I wore braces as a kid and my teeth went back to their crooked ways just a few years after the braces came off. I don't want the same thing to happen again!!

Do you have a 'tongue habit'? If so, what are you doing (or did you do) to correct it? How is it working for you? If your braces are off (or almost off), have your teeth remained straight, or are they starting to shift?

My old orthodontist had me 'practice' holding my tongue down, but it felt completely unnatural (still does). It just seems like there's no place for it in my mouth that doesn't push against the backs of my teeth.

I've never heard of "tongue reduction surgery" so there must be some way to effectively learn new and lasting habits! Do tell! :D

Thanks! -Jade

Hmm, while I thought this was something else, that's an interesting situation.

I just got chains hooked up to my impacted teeth, and tethered onto my Nance appliance. I was so frustrated yesterday because I couldn't stop playing with it with my tongue. Rubbed my tongue raw. It was so impossible to stop.

Guess that's not what you meant...

Phew ... luckily I don't have tongue warts! Yipes! :?

I guess the lesson here is that things could always be worse.
