Raw and blistered :(

#1 Post by choowee »

A little over a week with this tray (#2), and I've noticed that the underside of my tongue and the inside of my lip is blistered and raw...!

is this common? its making me miserable, but i don't think I can make it to the dentist for quite a bit.

Is the bottom tray rough under your tongue? If so, maybe you could file it down a bit?
I rinse with salt water a lot when I get this problem and it makes it feel better.
I think our mouths just need time to toughen up.
I hope you feel better soon.

due to the way the trays are manufactured, some trays are rougher in spots that other trays are not. before i put in a new set of trays, i always feel around all edges and file down all the roughest spots. over the next few days, i try to file down any spots that are still rough and aggrevating my mouth/tounge.

since you are only on tray 2, your mouth will probobly still toughen up a bit over time too. since i started doing my filing routine, i havent had any problems with soreness.
invisalign patient since feb 2007

lower trays: 11+5 refinements.

I agree with the posters above. When you find out exactly where it is bugging you, just file it down until the edge is smooth. I have only had to file 2 of my 6 so far. One was bugging me from the start and the other just started irritating me around day 3 and when I took it out there was a large gash and the plastic was folding back (must haven't got something caught in there at some point??).

thanks for all the advice! water definitely helped, and the filing gave me some relief as well. But most of all, I think I needed time. Now I tend to forget that I have them in at all.... yay! :)
