I am having jaw pain, tooth pain (from a tooth that had a root canal last winter-obviously it wasn't all taken care of), lisping issues, problems smiling, and aligners that crack.

I am going to go see the dentist soon (everytime I called, we played phone tag...hmm) and I'll mention most of that to him. The lisping and smiling issues will just be there as long as I have the upper aligner. It just seems like that top aligner is too big and I can't move my lip over it to smile. Even without the aligner in, my lip gets caught on the buttons.

I'm losing motivation and finding that I am wearing my aligners less and less. I'm probably at about 18 hours a day.

OK, typing this made me feel guilty about not wearing them when I paid so much for them and like a cry baby about everything else.

Thanks for asking. I called my dentist three times and never got them. I left a message the first time and they called me back with the message to call them back. I hate going and I'm being very childish about this whole thing. I noticed that ALL of my lower aligners have a crack in the same place (after wearing them, they don't start out that way). So I am of the mindset that they might crack, but they aren't cracking in two. So I think they are ok until I go to the dentist again. I also haven't goten so upset about the pains, lisping, etc. I've also been out of town a lot since school has been out and will return in early July, so I'll see him then.
Thanks for the support!

Ugh...that doesn't sound like fun...sorry, I wish I could help more :?

One of my top aligners got a crack in it because I had to work so hard getting it out but when my dentist removed one of my top attachments that made it a lot easier to remove. Yours might be cracking for the same reason...are they really tight on the bottom? Do you bend them a lot when you take them out? That's how I cracked my top one (it was just a small tear, not cracked in half or anything).

How long have you been wearing the aligners and how much further do you have to go? Maybe switching to regular braces would be an option?

Hang in there!!

I'm sur eI have too many buttons on. I have 17 in all, and 4 teeth on the bottom have buttons on both sides. I'm on aligner 6 of 13/top and 20/bottom.

I think it's all working well. I'm just a baby!

The pain was temporary and only lastest a couple of days. The lisping and smiling issues are still there.
Now I've noticed that when I wear lipstick (rarely) it gets on the bumps of the aligners-or worse- the buttons when I am not wearing the aligners. Yuck!!! A slight amount of vaseline applied to my teeth before the lipstick helps with that, though.

Don't worry, you are not the only one that has had the aligners crack. 3 of my trays in a row have torn a bit. They were all in different spots but all in between the teeth where I think the plastic may be a bit thinner (if that makes sense.) I called my ortho immediatly and he said it's really no big deal if the aligners still fit correctly. He said the only time I should be worried is if the aligner actually cracks or becomes incredibly loose and no longer fits. With each alinger that cracked, I was able to make it the entire 2 week wear time. My dentist told me to try and be more gentle when taking them out.... Honestly, the way I take them out, has been the only way I could get them out from day 1 so I think being more gentle is almost impossible. I am currently on tray 14 of 39 upper, 25 Lower. Since tray 10, I haven't had any tears in the aligners.

Hang in there
