hi all
just been for my adjustment and found out that my teeth havent moved enough in the last 6weeks so my surgery has been moved from november to either the 10th or 17th december.
Know these things happen but november was close enough to xmas for me so now i cat beleive ill be in that near to xmas.
App i go in on the sunday nite have the op done during monday and then will be discharged on the thursday so worst case sceniro ill be discharged 4/5 days before xmas day-hmmm.
My main concern with this is that in the uk and on the nhs everything shuts down over xmas (obviously emergency treatment still available, but wouldnt for example be able to get my surgon or ortho on the phone at all for several days.
Sorry to moan but its been one of those days.

It sucks that you're having this done so close to the holidays, but I am pretty sure you'll be able to reach your surgeon if you need to! My surgeon has a phone number that can be called any time of day or night, and if he is away or unreachable, he has a colleague on stand-by. (I am not in the UK, but I would think something similar exists over there?)
I dunno if it helps to share this, but it might.
A few days ago (about 5 days post-op) I suspected I might have had a bit of infection in one of my suture sites. After mucho ringing around, I was advised to go the the A&E dept of the hospital I was treated at, but to specify that I was a maxfax patient. I had to wait a few hours before I was seen, because I could only be looked at by one of the maxfax doctors rather than a general A&E doctor, but eventually I was seen (and all was well).
Maybe they will have the same system set up where you're having your surgery? Just ask before the surgery - the NHS may be flaky, but they don't down tools at Christmastime quite as much as everyone else does. The doctors who looked after me in hospital are the same doctors who treat head and neck trauma casualties, and they don't decrease in number at any particular time of year.

Hi Louise
You must be Soooo disappointed. Any delay is just too much, I really understand having been there myself. But, I bet even now you are coming to terms with the new date, I hope so anyway.
I'm in the UK, and understand your concern about "out of hours" care. But I think that it's true, that if you can get to an A&E anytime if you are concerned, you will get the care you need and it will be excellent care. Sorry for the A&E staff, but we have to do it. If only there was an easier way to get hold of the out of hours care required, but that's not always possible.
Anyway, the chances of you needing this is small, the nights in hospital after the op will give you the reassurance you need, then it's all downhill from there.
I may have my op around the same time as you, having waited since 1999 for braces and now 27 months with braces, month by month my date is put back. Will get there......don't worry, we are very close to the end!

Thanks for all the messages of support.
Quick update...just received a letter from my hospital asking me to come in on the 13th September for a meeting with my surgon-not quite sure what this is for, im guessing to finalise that my teeth are ready in his opion and to go over the op again.
So at least somethings happening and it doesnt feel quite so like im just waiting and waiting!

Hey,
I know exactly how you feel-- my surgery date kept getting pushed back because of miscommunication between the surgeons and I ended up having my surgery 2 months later than expected. But with all those appointments and such, time really does go by fast and you'll be ready for surgery in no time. Enjoy solid foods while you can! Good luck!

Hey Louise,
so sorry to hear of your disappointment. I imagine it must be hard, waiting for a date, then you finally get one, only to have it put back a month.
And to have a date for your op so close to xmas is unfortunate
I hope your app on 13th sept is more conclusive & you get a date finalised. I have my fingers crossed for you but don't fret...
As far as the nhs goes, i'm sure if worst case you needed to see someone urgently, that there would almost certainly be someone available to see you & relieve you of your worries.
Take care & let us know how it goes
