New here

Hi there...I'm new here and wanted to say HI! I've decided to finally take the plunge and get braces. I've met with 3 orthodontists and 2 oral surgeons.

The recommended treatment was the corrective jaw surgery. This site was great in helping me learn more about what all that entails. Apparently I have some additional risks. Anyway, for various reasons, I've decided NOT to do the corrective jaw surgery. (There was no medical reason to do it other than to correct my bite). Instead we'll go with the alternative "camouflage" option of pulling 2 teeth and having braces. I called today to set up appointment where they'll do all the x-rays and molds but the assistant had my file locked up so I have to wait for her to call me back on Monday.

At this point, the plan is to put clear on the top. I'll have those for about 6 months before they put metal on the bottom. I'm nervous and excited at the same time.

Hi NS :)

Surgery was an option for me, too, but like you I decided to go for the extraction instead. I'm still trying to decide whether to get clear or metal brackets on the top!

Good luck with your treatment :)

Hi NS and WELCOME!!! I have clear (ceramic) on top and will be getting metal on bottom in about 2-3 months. If you get ceramic see if they have pearl colored ligs or o-rings as my ortho called them. They said Pearl doesnt stain and it does blend so well with ceramic brackets. And they haven't stained yet for me :D And I've had tea and chocolate.

Thanks for the info! I'll be sure to ask about it.

Thanks
