Got my second adjustment today!

#1 Post by KathyC »

Hi Everyone,

I haven't posted in awhile because I haven't had anything to report. My life with braces goes on almost as normal as before.

I got my braces on October 29, 2007 and I have the 3M Smart Clips. I only get my adjustments every 8 weeks so today was my second one. I did take some Advil before my appointment and I'm pretty glad that I did. My teeth were already a little sore and when the Ortho pushed that wire into each clip it was a little uncomfortable. He put a heavier wire on the bottom this time. Last adjustment he put a heavier wire on the top. I think I'll stick with softer food for at least tonight but probably tomorrow I'll at least TRY to get back to normal eating.

I can't believe the movement in my teeth. I had one front tooth that stuck pretty far out on the top but now everything is all lined up. A couple of my bottom teeth were almost sideways and now they are straight. It's pretty exciting.

When I had my first adjustment there was hardly any pain at all but with this last one I have had as much pain as when I first got them on. The one thing that is different now is that I know what to expect. Also, when I first got them on I was dealing with a little pain but also with getting used to all that metal in my mouth. Now I'm used to the braces and even forget about them most of the time. Even from the beginning the pain hasn't really been that bad. Uncomfortable more than anything and I try not to baby myself too much. I just eat normally because the chewing really does seem to help.

Good luck with your journey Detective! You will find lots of support on this forum.

Glad that you are trying to move onto normal foods tomorrow!! Deserves a banana, eh? I am not stong enough to eat normally the day after an adjustment, but rather 2 days after. Glad that there is progress.
