coloured dots on brackets ?

#1 Post by tazzle »

new to braces ( 2 days ago) . and the first night I was diligently cleaning when I saw what I thought was a raspberry pip on one bracket . Havinf tried for several minutes to unsuccessfully get it off I gave up and went to take pics as I just could not work out why it was so stubborn and my eyesight is not great !!!

to my surprise it looked like several of the brackets had little red dots on them .. but not all .

are they for sizing reference???? . and if not why dont they all have them on.

any other suggestions :?

They are alignment dots, to make sure the ortho uses the correct bracket on each tooth and has it the correct way up.
They normally wear off after a few weeks, although I have one which is still on there after a year!

If they don't wear off AND they bother you, they can sometimes be scratched off with a fingernail.

I have different colored ones for different brackets - red, green, black, and white. They're still here after nearly three months, but they don't bug me nearly as much as they used to.

i always have those but i scrape them off with my finger nail as soon as I get in my car before driving away from the ortho office. Unless everyone's are different I think you can get them off fairly easy if you really want!

My ortho told me they would come off almost immediately, but I noticed them for a couple of weeks. I have Damon's, so I rather "enjoyed" having the colors :) I don't get all the fun colors of normal braces, so I didn't mind the colors and I didn't get colored rubber bands for a few weeks (they had to switch mine a couple weeks into treatment because I kept on biting through them at night... argh...).

Just brush and they will eventually come off. They do look kinda funny though, I remember. They just reminded me of little price stickers :) The newness of braces will wear off by the time the dots do :D

Wow.. now I know to look before I speak when I finally get fully banded, I had no idea that they might do those dots to be able to tell different brackets... what a novel idea.

I didn't even notice the dots until I uploaded photos I took onto computer (about 2 months after getting braced). It was only when I saw the braces on the computer screen that I noticed as they were so big on screen. I had to go to mirror then to examine braces. At first I couldn't see them & then when I did eventually see them, I couldn't imagine how I hadn'tseen them, especially as I had spent so much of the previous 2 months looking in the mirror! Weird. I think they're all gone now, I don't remember noticing them at all lately.

I didn't have any alignment dots -- is that a bad thing?
