Ahhh!! Two-tone teeth?

#1 Post by tammers1010 »

I don't know if I'm getting paranoid, but in certain light it looks like some of my upper teeth are becoming two-toned in color. Near the gumline, my teeth seem to have a yellowish-tint and they are normal near the bottom. I've been really excellent about brushing my teeth and flossing. i've really worked hard at flossing and bruching those particular teeth, but the yellow-tint isn't going away. My gums are becoming sore, and i'm afraid of damaging them, because I spend so much time making sure those particular teeth are clean. I see my ortho in roughly 11 days, i never noticed this before. I also use a floride rinse/ floride toothpase 4-5 times a week.

Any suggestions to help with the discoloration? I'm starting to get nervous because I know my teeth are really clean.

I've actually wondered if the light is playing tricks on me, or if it is really the teeth. Is it sad i've shined a flashlight on them to check this?

I've done the flashlight thing too  and I think the 2-tone effect is a trick of the light. In more "even" light, my teeth look more of a uniform colour.

I have noticed the same thing on my teeth. But, if you look closely you will see that it is not your teeth that are discolored it is the cement they use to bond the brackets. That cement stains badly. The good news is they will be able to remove it when the braces come off. I have been using 3% hydrogen peroxide diluted with water (1/2 & 1/2) to help with the staining. I swish it around in my mouth and also brush with it and it has definately helped. My dental hygentist suggested it and my ortho approved!

Good luck,

Stacey
